Just to play devil's advocate, the balance they need to hit with amiibo content is pretty hard to manage.

If it's too inconsequential then people won't want them and if it's relevant then people will complain it's content locked behind physical DLC. You can't win, really.

Only solution I can think of is having some sort of virtual amiibo you could buy from the store as an alternative to the physical ones. You'd get a 3d model you could view and display in some virtual space (kinda like melee trophies) and you could "scan" them into any game that's compatible. Oh and have them be like 2 or 3 bucks a piece or something.

if you're collecting more for the extra content you can just buy a blank NFC chip and make your own amiibos.

and I think the overwhelming majority who are buying amiibos are collectors.

so I think having any content locked behind a limited run toy is dumb.
