Because telling someone that it's one of those types of games is the biggest possible spoiler you can give, and yet the people who are fans of it have no problem blabbing about it to every player who they're trying to promote it to. Balatro is more approachable imo because the idea of working with a standard deck of cards and poker hands is very simple and easy to understand, and you don't really have enemies in the conventional sense that you have to battle against. Balatro, therefore, is less a matter of reacting to what the game throws at you, and more just dealing with the randomness on your end in terms of upgrading your deck and playing your hand. If we're going to talk about rogue-like deckbuilders, the other game that deserves a mention here is Monster Train, which is Slay the Spire if you were fighting the enemies off as they came to you, a la tower defense. Surprised to see V6 here. What's next, Super Hexagon? --- Only the exceptions can be exceptional. |

"Health" includes one "Healing," but not "HP," which to me is something that raises MHP rather than CHP. Don't do it. I really don't get why the MTG FF thing is such bait for so many people. If you are truly into both, then that's great, but I see far too many people who enjoy one and are lukewarm to the other jumping in and buying hundreds of dollars of magic cards they'll never play. This is the opposite, and as someone who played MMORPGs almost exclusively for like 6 years, I have vowed to never ever play another MMO. You do not want to play an MMO. I know you, ulti. I know what makes you tick. And you will DETEST playing an MMO. Like, do you really want to sit and bat your moonerang back at enemies for 6 seconds every time you use the skill? I also thought the lock system was really stupid. COE33 is "slow" as well, in the sense that there's a much longer period between your inputs and the events completing basic JRPG combat, but it does it in a way that doesn't make me feel like I'm just wasting my time. --- Only the exceptions can be exceptional. |

And unlike the original, I don't have the "but it's an important cultural touchstone" to fall back on, unless you want to argue that it was the first game that catered to a female audience. But Pac-Man, regardless of which version, is still not a very fun game unless you really get into it and understand the ghost movements and such. 5.5/10 --- Only the exceptions can be exceptional. |
