Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - Kaze no Ne received rank 2 of 3 as a strong contender. I've always found KnN to be an incredibly pretty piece while simultaneously very engaging. Every change in the song from the middle eastern drums entering to the chorus to the instrumental solo serve to preserve the momentum and maintain interest without betraying what made the song appealing in the first place. 7.5/10

Phoenotopia: Awakening - Caves of Mul receives rank 1 of 4, and is a fantastic piece that received an unfortunate bracket placement last year, and I'm happy to see getting some respect this year even if it has to go up against FFCC in R2. It does a lot of the same things Kaze no Ne does, while being a chill instrumental piece driven by its vibe and its bass line. 8.2/10

MementoMori: AFKRPG - XIII. THE BUD receives rank 4 of 5. I'm trying to figure out what, specifically, this track reminds me of. Maybe Fontaine from Genshin? The singer certainly sounds like Furina. Over the course of 6 minutes, the track moves around, but mostly follows a 2-pattern focused on a female vocalist who does a respectable job, but in a style I don't absolutely love. I have mixed opinions about THE BUD since it does a good job of selling itself during the highs, but there are also some lows. I'm gonna go with a flat 6/10

Shinju no Yakata - Loneliness of the Caged Bird receives rank 4 of 6. Man, this song takes a long time to build. I spent 2 1/2 minutes expecting any moment for the tempo to pick up, and while the noir portion of the track is very smooth, I was a little exhausted from the "will they won't they" of moving on from this segment, which apparently is the main focus rather than just an intro since it goes right back to that a minute later and more or less lives there. 6.2/10

Genshin Impact - Jade Chimes receives rank 1 of 7. This is not a typical track for me, and yet I find it incredibly *engaging*. You'll notice me using this word throughout many of these write-ups, but I feel it's absolutely the right choice here to embody what Jade Chimes does, and my only regret is that as a Genshin overworld track, it's not given the chance to really fully develop and ends a bit too quickly. Another 30 seconds to wind it down instead of clipping it short would have done it wonders. 8.4/10

Ecco the Dolphin (Sega CD) - Title Screen (Aqua Vistas) receives rank 4 of 8. This makes for an interesting match because Ecco and Jade Chimes are quite similar in how they are not very bombastic, but slowly draw you in, compelling you to listen more intently as they evolve. While JC has a very clear build, Ecco has much more of a rise and fall, relying on the prog development to keep things interesting, and is incredibly chill. I expect it to win, but it will be an interesting match regardless. 7.8/10

I guess we're going to find out how much Pint really loves his drink if we do C. Personally I would have gone with D, assuming our author/DM would find some way to still get Pint caught up in the madness during our egress. C feels a little bold, but it's certainly the more fun answer...assuming there's a clear path to slip behind the bar.

In February, I set a goal for myself that I was proud of. I followed up in March with daily exercise without any gap days. Then I kinda fumbled the bag in April and didn't even set a goal for May or June. The idea of having a month-long goal is a solid one, however, and it feels like the right amount of time to stick to a "resolution" of sorts. On top of that, I'm effectively unemployed for the summer, and I'm kinda aimless right now. I could really use a sense of direction, but I'm an incredibly indecisive person, so I'm going to ask you fine folks for your opinion.

Here's what these ideas might look like:

Metroidvanias: New, old, speedrun, completionist, doesn't matter. But I'd just make a month-long marathon to see how many games I can beat just for the fun of it. Probably revisit some games I dropped.
Backlog: Speaks for itself. Given an attempt to all those completely unplayed or underplayed titles in my Steam library.
Story: I used to write routinely. I've become disillusioned with the idea of ever seeing anything published, but 3 years ago, I wrote a lengthy and somewhat popular fanfic, and I wrote a follow-up last year. I wanted to make it a trilogy, but I've been struggling with motivation.
VGMGG: Stands for "video game music guessing game." Folks in discord know what this is. I have a really big project idea, but it's far too daunting a task to just tackle all at once. (Sidenote: anyone interested in partnering on this?)
Music: My parents had me take piano lessons as a kid, and I played alto sax throughout school. I recently got my alto refurbished, and although I don't have anything to play for, it might be nice to recommit now that my basement has a space that can serve as a practice studio.
Ranking: This is Board 8. No explanation required. I have no idea what the ranking would be. Part of me wants to see what a fishing minigame ranking would look like, but I have no idea how to even evaluate those. So you tell me.
Health: Nothing remarkable here. Mostly a repeat of my March goal to exercise, except maybe I factor other stuff in?

On that note, anyone working on any short- or medium-term goals of their own?

They continued making music for a good while later. (Well, maybe not Hendrix.) More to the point, I'm framing my decision by what I would expect the local rock station to play. They play the groups you mentioned, and they don't play The Beatles unless it's for a special reason. Granted, there are a decent number of bands from the 60s and 70s that I never hear via that station, but would absolutely be lauded in a ranking by Rolling Stone, so this shouldn't be the singular criteria.

Surprised nobody has responded to this yet. I can think how other characters might respond to this situation, but I'm trying to be respectful of your character here and not just pick the silliest thing imaginable.

(A) might not be appropriate for someone of Pint's background. He's obviously going to be upset over the spilled drink, but probably also sensible enough to recognize he won't get anything out of those two.

(B) sounds amusing. It's a subtle way to settle the score, befitting of someone of his background.

(C) would be what some other monk might do, but Pint loves his booze a little too much to allow this intrusion to go unpunished. Plus, they're loud and obnoxious and broke his "anchor."

(D) would be funny, but I don't *think* it's in character, and Pint's low charisma score suggests it likely won't go over well. Even if he wins over others in the crowd with the most wry, sardonic satire, it'll be lost on the two oafs.

Of these options, I prefer option B.

Chess - Track 2 receives rank 1 of 1 by default as it is the first song of the round I'm listening to. While a very interesting track, I doubt it will hold up too well for me down the road because while I do enjoy the sound, it's also very passive. 5.6/10

Solstice - Title receives rank 1 of 2 by being better than Chess. This has always been an indelible part of my memory as a kid who grew up with the NES and played Solstice back in whatever the heck year that was. I have stronger memories of the in-game music because of course I do, but the title is the far better piece of music and a Follin masterpiece. 8/10

I haven't watched animated shows since I was a kid and everything was simply off of network TV where "skipping the intro" meant leaving the room until it was over. So, yeah...I kinda don't get what there would be to skip. Maybe if I was watching stuff on a DVD collection and could fast forward, ig?

Edit: Weirdly enough, I just googled "you don't skip the intro" and I got a bunch of people doing their Mount Rushmores of this prompt, though without limiting themselves to animated.

What would you say your favorites, aside from Hollow Knight, have been?

This really comes down to personal preference. There are some that people really love, like Blasphemous, that I did not gel with at all. My favorites generally tend to be games where the movement is very fluid and precise. The one notable exception to that is Ender Lilies, which I enjoyed a great deal, and bought Magnolia the day it released this year. (Magnolia is objectively better, but I still like Lilies better.)

If you can set that aside, my favorite is Afterimage. It doesn't have the same charm as Hollow Knight, and the world isn't quite as open-ended, but it does just about everything else as well and a few things better. That said, it's an incredibly long game and might not be the right choice for jumping in unless you enjoy 20+ hour platformers.

If you're looking for something to transition into the space, one of the easiest on-boarding experiences is Ori. Another surprising option is Minishoot Adventures, which isn't a platformer, but does basically everything else a metroidvania does. If you're simply looking for something in the vein of HK, but a little scaled down, maybe Haiku the Robot. If you're an 8-bit fan, I'd try Astalon: Tears of the Earth. The last name I'll toss out as a consideration is Steamworld Dig 2, which is a little unusual, but is a great experience.

If you gave me any idea what does or doesn't work for you, I might be able to offer a more refined opinion.

Skyrim only at #7 is a bit of a shock, but I get it. Especially since this board has our pet favorites.

Objectively, Perfect Dark is superior to Goldeneye in the overwhelming majority of ways.

Subjectively, Goldeneye is a much more memorable experience for a dozen different reasons.
