For me, it has and will always be The Muppet's Christmas Carol. It hits every right note, is perfectly paced, and has banger after banger for songs.

I can't think of another that matches it.

What is yours?

I start with Trains Planes and Automobiles as close to Thanksgiving as I can, then roll right into Just Friends, Home Alone, and Christmas Vacation.

I honestly don't mind some of the cheesy Hallmark movies as well. Something comforting about them.

My brother was rolling hallmark movies on stream as background white noise and now I get very invested into the movies. I'm a 40yo man. This shouldn't be happening.

The use of the word "quintessential" would, to me, mean that you're looking for the most Christmas movie-ish Christmas movie that ever Christmas movie'd, which would be very different from what my favorite Christmas movie would be, as I favor the more atypical Christmas movie fare. You need something drenched in genuine holiday spirit and whimsy, something not cynical or mean spirited, and done well...which I guess for me would be something like Muppet Christmas Carol. That's the one that fits that criteria that I like best. It's a yearly watch for me.

But the GOAT Christmas movie for me is easily Gremlins. That's another yearly watch and one of my favorite movies of all time.

I also fuck with Home Alone every year

A Christmas Carol.

I like many of the versions of it, but particularly the George C. Scott one; he and the guy who played Ghost of Christmas Present captured their characters to perfection. I'm also particularly fond of the Patrick Stewart version and the one from the 1930s.
