While Dancing Mad may be the most grandiose and operatic of final boss themes, the most memorable and striking to me will always be World Revolution from Chrono Trigger.

Hell, take the entirety of the Lavos fights' soundtrack and even without nostalgia I'd say it easily competes with Dancing Mad. Chrono Trigger's main theme, World Revolution, and Last Battle...cap it off with an ending theme for the ages (To Faraway Times) and I simply cannot think of a better set list.

Dancing mad middle section is so weak it brings the whole song down

Phase 1+2+ Finale hard carries

And it loses out to both FF6's boss themes

OWA is ok, iconic but not as good as Birth of a God, a very underated song

I argue this counts. Although part of what makes it so special is that the choral arrangement near the tail end of the song consisted of the game development staff all singing together which adds an exceptional bit of extra weight to the meaning behind it

i've never played the actual game it was from, Tsugunai: Atonement, but i did watch a YouTube playthrough of the fan sequel to Chrono Trigger, Crimson Echoes, and they used this for the final boss fight (it was against King Zeal who had merged with Lavos, which was pretty awesome) and i suppose i have some nostalgia for this track because of that.

Which is pretty funny that he's come out to say over the years that he never really liked doing battle music too much, and was much more comfortable doing main theme and "love" arrangements.

Honestly, the best thing the guy has ever done is the Kalm music in FF7.

Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers. Whether we're talking the base game or the end of the ShB story, both are goated. To The Edge is one of the best boss themes in gaming imo, especially given that it was composed from a hospital bed while dealing with cancer. Soken is one of the few people who I think can fill the shoes left by Uematsu.

Also a special note for Answers, which closed out 1.0 and was then brought back for Bahamut

Lol, I just really like the third phase. I've always interpreted the different stages of the final battle as Kefka's depictions of himself during godhood. So having a little section (the third part) that sounds like something you would hear at a Church Mass, but intermingled with Kefka's theme just to show how full of himself he is. I always enjoyed it.

My least favorite is the second phase. But put altogether it's a pretty good banger.
