It's fine for programming. You still have to go through it to make sure everything works the way you want, but it takes a lot less time than doing it yourself.

There are many different uses. Im not interested in the fake videos or photos made with it no but there are many things in video games that do interest me and can be good things. Other areas too.

People have a tendency to focus on the areas they greatly dislike and lump everything in with that. There is plenty of good uses that fall under the umbrella term of ai.

What kind of AI are we talking about here? Video/image generating? Writing? Chat?

As someone with Asperger, AI has been supremely useful for helping me rewrite my job resumes and cover letters and communicating with job recruiters.

I think it's really interesting and useful in some ways, but the insane amount of power it takes and the copyright it breaks are not worth it IMO.

AI is not inherently evil. It's just a tool. It can be used for a whole range of worthwhile, transformative things. It has incredible potential for healthcare, and it could free humans from boring drudge work and pave the way to a better future.

Most people's experience with AI is 'slop' artwork, time wasters, and copyright theft. All of which are horrible, I agree, but they aren't the whole story. I have zero desire to use AI as a companion or a source of 'knowledge'. None of the publicly available AI stuff interests me at all.

The big problem is going to be the way the tool is going to be used. No one should trust the corporations and tech bro wankers to provide benefits to society. My fear is that something with the potential to free us will just be used in selfish, limited, narrow minded, and harmful ways.

D. There's more to AI than content generation, which is what gives it a bad name. For fields like medicine, it's already showing very promising results.

People are referring to the training process when they talk about power. Actual trained models use very little power, which is why you can run them on a home computer or even your phone (depending on the model).

I wouldnt say zero interest, but my s24 came with ai tools... which ive never used, dont even know what they can do, so bit of a middleground for me i suppose.

I've enjoyed using Copilot to be honest (haven't tried other assistants) because it has actually been helpful. I don't like generative AI. And as others have mentioned it has uses in certain fields like medicine. I'm not totally against it.

C. The costs outweigh the benefits and the people selling it are lying about what it is and what it can do. Corporations are buying those lies because they get raging hard-ons at the idea of laying off millions.

In addition to this people are using it as a thinking substitute, and in addition to that it has massive electricity and water costs and is burning through clean water at alarming rates, and in addition to THAT it's rapidly overtaking real art and content made by actual human beings. And in addition to all that it's such a massively dangerous political weapon that even the medical benefits don't seem worth it by comparison.

The truth no longer matters, anyone can generate any message or content they want and share it with the masses, and to make it all worse they have AI running on social media platforms that they own that they are actively reprogramming with their narrative.

Grok, the one backed by the dude who threw two nazi salutes, was actively engaged in politics at the time despite owning one of the world's largest social media platforms, going full nazi was the biggest warning sign of what they're doing with it and what's to come I think we could have possibly been given, and yet nothing was done.

We're in a race to the bottom and AI is the clown car they're packing us all into.

Corporations are throwing billions at it so they can eliminate jobs, and they're sugarcoating it for the general public with fun little apps and shit that no one needs. It's ruining things like youtube more every day and is just bad for society.

Not exactly zero but pretty damn close.

I admit AI does have some useful applications, but those are being drowned out by companies thinking they can replace human workers with AI.

I've been avoiding an update on my phone for months now because I don't want fucking AI features to do things I already do perfectly well. Aargh.

Surface level, D, but it's complicated.

I think AI *theoretically* has a lot of really good potential value. The problem is that, thanks to ~capitalism~, it's being intentionally and aggressively used in all the worst ways. We're getting the worst version of an AI future possible: one where it's used as a tool by the wealthy to control the masses and keep us in collective poverty.

C, on a personal level.

D, in that it has niche use cases where it can be truly useful and should be encouraged.

Which really depends more on the type of AI.

Having to do the work yourself anyway because the bullshit machine fucked everything up does not strike me as a particularly efficient way to accomplish tasks.

D, I work in IT and it's just another software tool there like any other. If it all collapses tomorrow, IDC. But if you're able to completely detach yourself from it, good for you. I'm used to adopting flavour of the month BS.

AI, if used correctly can be a force for good things, obviously right now it has flaws like any questions you ask aren't always going to be 100% accurate.

Then there's the whole doctoring of images and video, which in the wrong hands hurts innocent people.
