Today I watched:

The Void
I'd seen this one before but didn't care for it much. Still don't. The creature work is fantastic but it's trying to do a bit too much and still drags in the middle. And the characters and story are barely there.

And

Lamb
Wasn't even really a horror movie. The marketing was really trying to push this as the hot new A24 horror movie when it came out. It's really just the story of the super boring life of some farmers and their human/sheep hybrid child. Until the last five minutes when the kids real dad sows up and pops a cap in Ingvar.

last night I watched Terrifier 2. It was definitely better than the original but it's still not my thing. though being 138 minutes long (I have enjoyed long horror movies, but slashers are generally not among them) doesn't help.

I haven't figured out the rest besides the next two nights: Darkman (I know this movie's horror credentials are debatable but I need to watch this; Evil Dead and Raimi's Spider-Man are each among my favorite movie series) and Coppola's Dracula

So far I've watched 3. It's cool to track them, not sure if I'll make it every day but willing to try.

1. The Deadly Spawn (1983)
2. Nightmare On Elm St. (1984)
3. Ghostbusters (1984) (not sure if this counts but what the heck).

Next I'm planning to watch the first 3 Friday the 13th movies, I don't care as much about the ones after those. Not intentionally making it all 80s movies it's just the ones I like best for the most part.

I indeed watched Darkman yesterday, and it was awesome

Tonight I watched Freaks (1932). I will admit it didn't hold my attention 100% of the time, but it's a remarkably well-crafted movie, probably to be expected from Tod Browning who made fucking Dracula which is maybe my favorite Universal horror (more likely 2nd to Bride of Frankenstein).

Tomorrow I'll probably watch Coppola Dracula

Final Destination Bloodlines

I haven't seen one of these since 3. I heard good things about this one but it's pretty much the same as the others. This is not a franchise that ever needed lore but they just keep digging. And the Rube Goldbergian set ups and fakeouts kind of got out of hand. I prefer the first ones where you could just blink and someone would be splattered across the walls. This is a franchise where you miss nothing by just watching the kills on youtube.

Just saw Good Boy

The gimmick was cool and the way it was shot for that was really well done, like everything being shot from dog height. But there was basically no story and it got old after a while just seeing a dog staring into the middle distance while a jumpscare was brewing. Still, a unique hook and style. Kind of reminded me of In a Violent Nature in that regard. Worth seeing at least once. And the theatrical release had a little BTS segment where they talked about using the Kuleshov Effect to make you feel like the dog was really emoting.

10/1 - Terrifier 2
10/2 - Darkman
10/3 - Freaks
10/4 - Bram Stoker's Dracula
10/5 - Piranha

Coppola Dracula was solid (particularly the production design), though I didn't love it

if Piranha was balls to the walls insane for a much larger portion of its runtime, like it was in the last 15-20 minutes, I would probably have loved it. as is though I get it is a really cheap B-movie I think it just kind of exists. not bad but I don't think I'd intentionally watch it again.

  7. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)

Dream Warriors was my first Nightmare film so it will always hold a special place in my heart. I was 10 at the time. I found out about Freddy first from the music video for Dokken's Dream Warriors while watching MTV. (Which quickly became one of my favorite songs of the year) I would later watch the movie when my older sister rented it. It's right up there with the first film in quality. It's been a long while since I last saw the film, so it was a blast rewatching it.

Everything except Terrifier 1 was a re-watch, though it's been a long time since the last time I've watched Poltergeist or Amityville. Exorcist might be next up, haven't decided yet. I haven't actually seen that one before.

I normally do nothing but first watches for these, but I'm watching some favorites I haven't seen in a while for this one. The Thing is, of course, still so good it is almost unreal.

Wishmaster is one of the most insane experiences I've had watching a movie in a long time. It is not good. At all. But it is ridiculously entertaining.

The Endless - Doomsday Cult has more going on than it seems (Resolution is another movie connected to this)

Dark Song - Woman tries to contact something via a long arduous spell and stuff happens, love love love this one

The Sadness - I think this one is pretty popular but for all intents and purposes it's a super fucked zombie movie

Bone Tomahawk - Western + Horror + Kurt Russel My personal holy Trinity

Boys From County Hell - Irish Vamp movie

Normally I watch 3 horror movies on Halloween. A classic I haven't seen yet, a newly released one and a classic I love. But as I was researching which newly released horror movie to watch my list just kept on growing.
So I'm joining you guys though I'll have some catching up to do.

  2. Bring Her Back
  3. Weapons
  4. Shaun Of The Dead
  5. Smile 2

The usual Burton style was toned down to a good level. It's a very good looking movie. And it's was a lot more graphic than I was expecting. A bunch of people actually get dismembered on screen.
