Tourist Trap

Surprisingly original pre-boom slasher. Kind of surprised I'd never seen this before. The killer is genuinely menacing and those mannequin mouths are creepy as hell.

10/11 - The Substance
10/12 - A Bay of Blood

as you can see I did miss a day (due to IRL stuff). more likely I'll try and watch two movies later.

Creature from the Black Lagoon was the last major Universal Horror I'd not seen. Great movie. About as pretty as black and white horror gets in my opinion.

The Substance is a true sick fuck of a movie and even with knowledge of it being a body horror movie, went way farther than I thought it would in that field, especially for something that was nominated for multiple Oscars. Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley are both fantastic.

A Bay of Blood is another proto-slasher. Great when it is great but I can't say I was always invested in it. However the ending is truly what the fuck worthy.

It's always been my favorite. Maybe it's cheating a little because it's 20 years newer than a lot of the others but it's just great and the design of the creature is fantastic.

All except Attack are on Tubi. There's also A New Binge, a season of short episodes of a Critters TV show that comes out to around 70 minutes of content, closer to an hour without the opening and ending credits. That's what I'm watching now. It's very stupid(but why else would you be watching Critters if you weren't down for stupid?) but it does have more of a focus on the Crites than any of the movies. They're on a mission from their President and we see them communicating with each other frequently. In the movies we only get brief bits where we see the Crites communicating but they're really getting shit done in this.

Night of the Living Dead (1990)

Ultimately I think the original is still a more interesting film. Didn't change enough to be unique but changed enough to be lesser. It's neat that they gave Barbara more to do but now she's just kind of a generic badass survivor girl. A protagonist who is a useless screaming damsel who dies was way more interesting.

Scream was a rewatch and is still awesome. Other than the original Nightmare on Elm Street, probably my favorite slasher movie. I have seen none of the sequels. The next five movies I'm watching are the sequels.

Werewolves

I figured this was gonna be crap but I'm always hunting for a good werewolf movie because there are depressingly few. It wasn't terrible. It took itself surprisingly seriously for how dumb the concept is. All of a sudden the supermoon causes people to turn into werewolves. That's it. Just get exposed to moonlight and its furry time. Apparently the year before over a billion people turned. Then some scientists developed literal moonscreen to block the effects. It follows zero werewolf lore. Biting doesn't turn people, no silver bullets. You can just shoot them or hit them with your car. They don't even seem to have a keen sense of smell or sight or anything. I will give them props for using almost entirely practical werewolf suits, even if the faces were kind of derpy.

Sinners was good though like a lot of people I preferred the parts leading up to the outright horror.

Either way it's an excellent movie that true cinephiles will enjoy. If you're looking for a traditional horror film, this is not the movie for you.

I dipped after 2 because I'd seen enough, in a good way. 2 was so well done and fun that I didn't need more from that premise. So I never saw three four or five but then I did see Bloodlines and it was awesome enough to convince me and go back and watch the three I'd skipped. That was a mistake. 2 is the pinnacle, Bloodlines is great, 1 is decent, and the rest are not very good. Cool to see an early Mary Elizabeth Winstead movie with 3, though.

It's a sequel to a horror movie, retains some horror elements, and on its own still fits firmly in spooky month territory so I'd say count it. Plus the existential nightmare of unchecked AI looms, which is a horror no matter the genre.

I generally have this for ruling whether a movie that isn't definitely horror is allowed in October marathons:

"Movies do not have to be just horror: "Horror-adjacent" and "October" movies are allowed. Examples include: non-horror movies with classic monster characters, psychological thrillers, horror spoofs, Halloween movies, movies that are arguably horror but are predominantly another genre, non-horror installments of series that do feature a horror installment, etc."

I'd say M3GAN 2 is valid.

yeah I was aware going in the movie getting the movie made was messy (though when I heard "they had to make the movie less violent due to Columbine", I did not think it meant "until asked to edit the script because of Columbine it was basically a different movie altogether"), and this is by far the most obvious hint of that

There's a cut of the movie with some deleted scenes of 3 that further proves there's 2 killers.

I will have to see if I can find it again, the deleted scenes are in black and white though but it's still good.

Dang, I was excited to watch the new Fear Street tonight because I just got Netflix but it got terrible reviews. That's a shame because the first 3 were great.

The plot is forgettable but it has some good, gory kills

Fear Street Prom Queen sucked, the first 3 were great.

Should've continued the story from there.
