In a vacuum, I think Mighty No. 9 landed firmly in the "it's ok" category. I think it would have just been seen as a serviceable and relatively inoffensive take on an indie Mega Man game if the project didn't have Keiji Inafune's name directly attached to it. A lot of times the first game in a franchise isn't amazing and feels like a test for what comes next. Sonic 1 is playable, but its not an amazing experience. Same deal with Megaman 1.
