Yoga Fire!

Shadaloo Bio: " Dhalsim is the miracle of India, and a master in the way of yoga. He's often the voice of reason when fighters need wisdom. Dhalsim's strict training has transformed him into one of the masters of yoga, and is almost deified by the people. He can extend his own limbs to attack opponents from a distance, and he can call upon the power of the fire god Agni to control flames."

Dhalsim is probably the Ur-Example of a zoning character in fighting games. With his extremely long reaching punches & kicks, flame attacks, unusual jump physics, and teleportation, Dhalsim had an interesting toolkit that truly set him apart from everyone else in the original game. And while his backstory doesn't make him terribly plot relevant, there's always room for a wise master character in martial arts stories, so it's easy enough for him to just come around & give advice to whomever needs it. A very well done classic character.

I rather like Dhalsim. He's a fun character with a memorable design who just fits in with the universe. Also, I have a bit of nostalgia for him; I mentioned (or will mention, depending on what order write ups are posted) that Vega seemed completely impossible to beat in the original SF2, but I actually got a lucky win over him as Dhalsim! My cousins didn't think I had a chance and that it was impossible to win as Dhalsim, but I actually did it! ...Okay, it's not much, but I was happy and having a happy memory attached to him makes Dhalsim worthy of a fairly decent place on my list.

Would I be interested in seeing him in a new game? Sure. He's not an absolute favorite or anything, but he's unique & fills the wise master role perfectly well. - FluttershyPony

Guile - his theme might go with everything, but his playstyle goes with being a turtling basic bitch. Yeah, I said it. Cool-ass gravity-defying crouching roundhouse, though.

Guile was the second-to-last placer of the SF2 World Warriors for me. Dhalsim, meanwhile, was first (if not first place.)

Ken is our first character to be on half of all Top 20 lists! One of only ten characters to do so. Though that wasn't quite enough to get him into the Top 10. But can he be #13? Shoryuken!

Who you like more between Ryu and Ken is a matter of opinion. And it's a very divided opinion. In fact, of 22 lists, 11 listed Ryu higher, and 11 listed Ken higher. Some people had very big differences, while others ranked them right next to each other. (I did!) Like Ryu, Ken shows up in Smash Brothers. But he's pretty synonymous with Street Fighter. Ken never did quite as well as Ryu in the gamefaqs contests here, though he made few appearances.

The faster, flashier counterpart to Ryu who wants to get in the opponents face. Has gained a few tricks over the years that his friend doesnt have, but still retains the essence. Also gets some story details that Ryu doesnt, such as starting a family, and the smear campaign JP runs against him in SF6. - GavsEvans123

I've got 6 of my top 10 left and 9 of my top 20 now, as well as my #22, 31, and 76 (out of 82).

I knew that my #76 would rank really high though.

I really like Rose's appearance and watching her fight, but I've never been able to use her effectively and her backstory gives me a headache. She's her own person, but somehow she has part of Bison's soul? And Bison steals her body, but being murdered in her body frees Rose from his control? And Bison steals back his soul from her, but she seems fine afterwards and that may or may not have been a canon event? And also she may or may not be trapped in a time loop? ...Even by Street Fighter standards, her story is an incoherent mess.

And yet... I like her design so much that she kept getting moved up my list, to far greater heights than I could have ever expected. And I suppose I am drawn to the insanity of her backstory, to a point that I'm always interested in seeing what happens to her next. And all of her ties to Bison, along with her knowledge of the future, does make her a very easy character to work into any plotlines that occur... for being someone who I'll never actually play as, she's certainly a very high scoring character. - FluttershyPony

I was also #4 on Ken. Disappointing.

I was also the low on Rose and am surprised-- I guess her gameplay is interesting enough but I never liked her part in the overarching story.

Akuma wasn't anyone's favorite, or even in their Top 5. He made a few Top 10 lists, but Top 20? He was there almost 2/3rds of the time. One of the highest rates for the Top 20. Most people generally liked him. Some didn't, but it wasn't enough to knock him down far.

He made quite the memorable entrance showing up to one-shot M. Bison before challenging the player to battle. Its easy to see him as evil, but he isnt he respects power, and will pursue it at any cost, but he has a sense of morality, albeit a skewed one. Also, he wouldnt steal candy from a baby. His endings have some absurd feats, like jumping into space to destroy an asteroid. Who needs Bruce Willis and Aerosmith? - GavsEvans123

I don't like playing as her that much, although I appreciate what she brings to the table, but she has a fantastic design and I like how she's a foil to Bison (and I love me some foils)

Rose was my 4 and Akuma was my 6 (came very close to ranking him 5th though).

Lost Dhalsim, my number 1. Tried to main him in SF2 and it didn't work out so well, but I did main him in SF4 and SF6 and he works much better there. He's got a ridiculous number of projectiles in SF6, too. Also had Rose at 7.

Depends on where you placed the rest of the Top 10. Definitely possible, though. Also depends on how many characters you ranked. But if you ranked 125, and any of 10th-8th below 26thish place, he probably would have. Just from a quick glance.

Zangief is hugely popular. He's also a huge guy. He made half of all Top 20 lists, but he also had a very low ranking, and some mid-rankings. Definitely one of the most recognizable Street Fighter characters. I'm sure it helps that he's one of the Original Eight.

Zangief is the original grappler character in fighting games, his innovative offense and 360 degree inputs would have a tremendous influence on the entire fighting game genre. He's never really an important part of the series' plots, often either irrelevant or just comic relief, but he somehow manages to be one of the most beloved parts of the series even without any plot relevance. And why shouldn't he be? Zangief is great.

Strangely enough, my favorite appearance of Zangief was in the Neo Geo Pocket Color's SNK vs. Capcom. That little handheld had a thumb stick that was designed for fighting games & it made even complicated motions like 360s a breeze to pull off. It made Zangief so much fun to play in that game, easily some of the most fun I've had in any fighting game. If only I had such a useful thumb stick on modern controllers....

Would I be interested in seeing him in a new game? Yes, actually. I know I usually complain about characters that appear in too many games, but Zangief is one of the exceptions. He's just a really fun character and I have so much nostalgia for playing as him on the NGPC that I'm always happy to see him. It's kinda silly to want a character with no plot relevance to come back, but eh, the series could probably use a few characters who are just there for a fight. - FluttershyPony
