absolutely immaculate vibes, FFT/12 music strangely fit, and an innovative approach to combat. but the battle placing could feel extremely slow at times. remember that big tank in the desert you just kinda sat around waiting for?

ironically the speedrun makes more use of non-scouts than i'd thought despite how overwhelmingly good they are, because of grenade economy. pretty neat run to watch, RPG limit break did it two months ago in around two hours

i don't remember any sniper usage at all though. rip

This game has some interesting ideas and looks pretty, but I kind of hate everything about its actual gameplay and story. I badly want to like it and have tried multiple times, but I just don't.

Almost perfect. Kinda wonky unit balance messes it up (scouts op). I wish side units had more focus too but that's the genre. Amazing story and gameplay on the whole though.

One of the worst games I've ever played. It's fundamentally broken. Every level is just a quest to find out how to cheese it, and it's clearly balanced around the cheese which isn't fun at all.

Lovely and creative game. No filler, just good missions and good characters. Difficulty is a bit poorly tuned at times and the ranking system best ignored entirely. Quite a bit of depth too if you get into speed running and self-limited runs. I don't think the balancing (except one broken character) is anywhere near as far off as people make out if you aren't super optimising for speed (snipers do suck, but scouts, shocks, engineers, lancers and tanks can all contribute a lot).

This game was one of the reasons I bought a PS3. It's fun enough, I guess but I don't have a particular desire to play the sequels. I bought the 2nd game for PSP but couldn't get into it.
