I remember being intrigued at the idea of a darker, grittier take on the Superman mythos, but it was pretty bad.

It was good. It showed a ton of Superman's personality at a time where the casuals all thought he was invulnerable boy scout military follower. He has emotions and it can get the better of him.

Just a remarkably boring movie.

A boring misrepresentation of a character who's not that hard to understand. Not that Snyder hadn't shown his hackiness before this movie, but his take on Superman really showed what a dumb thinker he is.

It's a fine movie for what it was.

You really need to be more specific. I can think of at least 3 unbelievably stupid Pa Kent moments off the top of my head.

Anyway, no. It was an edgelordy as shit and most of the movie is incredibly boring action scenes.

The fight scenes go pretty hard. But every time Superman isn't fighting, it's either boring or frustratingly dumb.

Not really. Even the bits that I think are genuinely done well, like the oil rig scene, are robbed of their impact by the anarchic storytelling order.

I wish I could go back in time and stop Snyder from ever getting picked for the job.

Whoops, I voted "No" instead of "Haven't seen it" because I momentarily thought it was the Shaq movie Steel.

Overall yes. It had some dumb parts like pa Kent killing himself for no reason. But the fight scenes were some of my favorite superhero fight scenes. Even if the destruction was enormous and not what you'd expect from superman who generally tries to save people.

I feel like, if it had removed the brand association, it was actually a decent watch.

The biggest problem was it was an awful Superman movie. Once I started mentally calling him Alienman I found myself rather enjoying it.

I think it still had problems without the Superman connection,

But Alienman is an okay dumb scifi/action b-movie, that almost has some interesting themes and ideas (almost). I could accept it as a guilt pleasure or so bad it's good movie.

But as a Superman movie it's offensively bad.

As someone who isn't really a Superman fan, it was alright. Certainly flawed at best, but there were things to like about it.

Love it. Maybe the only good movie from the original DCEU

Yeah, true, it's never going to win Oscars no matter what you called stuff, when it's just one big action scene preceded by a bunch of angst themes of "maybe it's better to let people die, I dunno."

I found the muted colour palette to be very off-putting. The plot played out fairly competently. The Johnathan Kent death was useless, Kal-El was meant to learn he can't save everyone. A heart attack proved that in every iteration of the character, they didn't need to try to re-invent the wheel.

They really made Kevin Costner into a bad dad. Thats really impressive

If they wanted to do something new, I think they could have used the death by tornado to show Kal-El cannot save everyone.

Have Jonathan about to be killed by the Tornado, at the same time have a bus load of kids about drown (put that scene here, and cut the "maybe" out completely). Clark is torn does he save his father or save the kids, and his father gives him the nod, to save the kids.

You could even use this to highlight WHY he becomes "Superman" not just as a way to protect his identity but specifically to inspire others, because he knows he can't save everyone.

Sigh.... of course that would require wanting to make a movie about a Superman who prioritizes saving lives, and this movie did not want to do that.

It's not bad. The action is obviously great. Although the tone is weird for a Superman movie I kind of like that we see Superman fighting for hope in a world that's a bit more dark. The new movie and the old ones have Superman just being the nicest guy in a pretty nice world. It gives his actions a little more weight to have to actively fight back against darkness.

Not my favorite take on Superman but I dont dislike it. I enjoy it enough to choose like.
