Better question, why not September 3rd?

That's when the Treaty of Paris was signed, recognising the US as an independent nation.

This is insane. Genuinely crazy.

If you are referring to a specific date, at least within the context of that conversation, it is significant. Which way round you say it doesnt make it more or less significant. It just makes you more or less weird.

It's pretty simple, really.

Someone asking about the date = "July 4th"
Someone asking about holiday-related things = "Fourth of July"

To take a random date, you can say the 17th of February, or February the 17th.

Both are correct in English.

How many footballs would America weigh?

To determine how many American footballs the weight of America (the U.S. population) would equal, let's break it down step by step.
1. Weight of an Average American:
  • The average adult in the U.S. weighs about 80 kg (~176 lbs).
  • The U.S. population is roughly 335 million people.
2. Total Weight of America (U.S. Population):
Total weight=Average weightPopulation=80 kg335,000,000=26,800,000,000 kg
Total weight=Average weightPopulation=80kg335,000,000=26,800,000,000kg
3. Weight of an American Football:
  • A standard NFL football weighs between 1415 oz (per league regulations).
  • Converting to kilograms:
  • 15 oz0.425 kg
  • 15oz0.425kg
4. Calculating the Number of American Footballs:
Number of footballs=Total weight of AmericaWeight of one football=26,800,000,000 kg / 0.425 kg63,058,823,529
Number of footballs=Weight of one footballTotal weight of America =0.425kg / 26,800,000,000kg 63,058,823,529
Final Answer:
6.311010
6.311010
So, the weight of America (the U.S. population) is roughly 63.1 billion American footballs.
Comparison:
  • Earlier, we calculated that America weighs about 62.3 billion soccer balls.
  • Since American footballs are slightly lighter (~0.425 kg vs. ~0.43 kg for soccer balls), the number is marginally higher.
This means America weighs roughly 63 billion American footballs!

Probably something to do with the independent nation deciding the start of their sovereignty, not the state that they broke away from.

What are you talking about

Putting a date before the month is common in many contexts, not just for this one specific holiday.

And in general word order matters across languages for how information is loaded into a message. You do it in English subconsciously all the time when you use two or more adjectives for a noun.

Also realistically it's probably just a holdover of classic language influenced on English (predominantly German but also other languages), since a ton of other European languages say Day of Month. Someone probably realized you could just say Month Day in English without sounding completely dumb and it stuck

Bc we didn't need a dumb treaty to recognize ourselves as independent. We considered ourselves independent long before the treaty. It wouldn't make sense to celebrate when other countries recognized our independence.

Thanks, but its not subconscious for me. I have to teach it. However, thats in no way relevant to dates.

Why do the Brits add the letter U to so many of their words?
Why do American's pronounce it "LABRAtory? That's not even how it's spelled.
Why do some people say carmel, instead of caramel?
