I'd pick the kiosk unless I know it wouldn't get my orders accurately.

Traditional check-out lane. My scans have messed up at the self-checkout and I had to get an employee to fix it, so no thanks to that.

Ah, that makes sense.

Id rather deal with an employee because sometimes I have to deal with an employee

Depends queues and number of items on me. If there's more than a few, they are assuredly faster than I'd be, but a customer with a full cart in front of me and an empty self check out will probably get me to the latter.

It really depends on the location.

Grocery stores I always use the cashier. Other stores I'll generally do the self check out if I have only a few items.

I have literally never chosen self-service if an option exists to interact with a human.

In most cases, if self-service is the only option, I will straight up leave the store and not buy anything.

Now that McDonalds has mostly shifted to an order screen in most franchises, I no longer go into McDonalds ever. I will pretty much universally use the drive-through only because that still involves a level of human interaction.

About the only place I'm willing to use an automated order screen is Wawa - and even there, I refuse to use the auto-pay terminal and will only pay for what I order at the counter with an actual cashier.

I loathe the all-digital future. The moment it went from "It's an optional convenience" to "It's slowly becoming mandatory" is the moment I turned against it.

Same reason I don't use smart phone apps. If a service requires an app, I will not use that service, period.

Totally depends on the language situation.

If the service kiosk has an English option that wasnt translated using AI, Id go for that.

Person. Those self checkouts are not convenient if you're getting more than couple of things.

At Sam's Club I will almost always use the self checkout. I try to arrange my cart so that all the barcodes are face up, so I can just go boop-boop-boop-boop-boop-boop done. I can usually check out faster than the cashier.

Costco doesn't have cordless barcode scanners like Sam's, you're supposed to pick up each item and run it across the flatbed scanner, so I normally use the regular checkout.

At regular grocery stores, it depends on how much stuff I have. A few items and I'll use self-checkout to save time, otherwise I'll use a cashier.

At fast food places, I'll use the kiosks. At grocery stores, unless I'm only buying like 3 or 4 items, I'll choose a lane with an actual employee

I dont particularly want to interact with a person, but at the same time its easier to go through a person to get scanned out. Some of the self checks are really fiddly. Doubly so if they have weight sensors.

Self-service kiosk. I don't like interacting with people much.

For something like checking out, whichever seems like it'll be fastest/easiest. At grocery stores, I usually do self-check because I can get through quickly enough and the lines are often slower for cashier lanes, but at Costco I'll go to a cashier because those lines generally move faster and I've got enough stuff that self-check would be slower/more awkward than their approach of having one person scan and another load the cart.

For finding an item, I generally prefer to either look it up using an in-store search or on my phone, rather than hunting somebody down to ask them for it.

For ordering food, I don't really have a preference.

'Self-service kiosk'

but only if it takes cash. I used to be a cashier and drive-thru worker. I'll never say I prefer a person again.

So do I, but for only for video games and films/shows. As it goes for food and groceries, machines can't mess with my burger before putting it in the bag (unless its like Megan 3.0 or something).

I pretty much live my life in such a way that the only time I interact with a real human is for work. Any other time and I try to avoid human contact as much as possible.
