Then I lost a lot of progress when I died one time and I didn't have the motivation to do it again, so that was it

This fucking ruled at the time. I feel like Shadow - maybe the worst Tomb Raider game, or second-worst after Angel of Darkness - has retrospectively made me resent this trilogy a bit more. But this really changed things for the franchise.

The ending, with the dual pistols, is a particularly fond gaming memory. Also Conan playing it on Clueless Gamer. Which doesn't help the rating, but that's a video I come back to now and then when I want a laugh.

I could probably go a little higher. It's a really well-made game but it's not quite engaging or deep enough to really get into 8 territory. Part of me wants to bump it up anyway, but I have to draw the line somewhere and this game is a bit below it.

The exploration is actually fun but it's let down by repetitive shootouts and mediocre writing
