If you cropped it down to focus on the guy it looks oddly like 90s era video game box art.

I think it looks alright. It's not bad but nothing spectacular either.

Fictional movies are allowed to make stuff up, but if the movie in question makes a pretense of being consistent with real-world creatures, making up implausible creatures that go against that pretense is inevitably going to rub people the wrong way. People like the Jurassic Park franchise because it has dinosaurs, not because the director wanted to make a pseudo-kaiju movie but didn't have the balls to establish a new franchise in which to do so.

There's also still an expectation for those made-up creature designs to be good, even when there aren't suspension of disbelief issues involved in making them up.

I could never really get into any movie beyond the first because continuing the series was contingent on people making increasingly dumb decisions.

See, there's this thing called suspension of disbelief. You should probably look it up. Made up stories can have made up things in them without seeming ridiculous.

This perfectly explains the downfall of the series, lol!

Although, It might have been cool to have a meta-narrative of Frankensteined Dinosaurs based on the concept of us basically Frankensteining fossils and guessing what dinosaurs might have looked like back then.

It's a movie series where they brought back dinosaurs from extinction. They are already all genetically modified, so this isn't really a case of implausible creatures ruining the suspension of disbelief because the entire pretense of the movies hinges on implausibility.

Running away from big scary dinosaurs has really been a huge point of all the Jurassic movies, and if you can't see that expressed in that poster then you are probably expecting too much from movie posters.
