You know that an AI revolution driven by open-source local models is the only solution to the social revolution?

The smaller and more powerful the models become, the more we will become used to have dozens of them on our phone, with little to no connection to the outside world. We will turn inwards, and respect interactions with our personalized AIs more than any real human, let alone abstracted online humans. They will know more about us than anyone else, more than even ourselves. We will love them.

Mods can't ban directly. The most they can do is suspend, at which point it goes to the admin to determine the actual punishment.

Anyway, speaking of local government, the UK city of Leeds, the largest city in Europe without a train or tram network, is getting a tram network. Almost as if the massive lack of infrastructure development in the north was an act of deliberate action by the previous UK government and the moment theres a change of government it actually gets fixed! Which is not to take away from the many issues with the current government.

This isn't NYC specific, a lot of other cities have this problem, but, you know, NYC is kinda the only other city where I have to care about the mayoral race for some reason

A common problem you end up with in local governments all over the world is that in areas which are strongly held by one party you often wind up with rampant corruption because theyre too secure. There is no threat of getting voted out so they can do whatever they want. New York seems like a fairly textbook case of that.

NYC is a massive city and it exhibits massive democracy that makes it look closer to a state or country. The fact is, democracy encourages bad candidates all the time. That's why the saying is that democracy is the worst form of government, except all the others.
