Regarding the poll, "standard nomination and selection process" won, so that's what I'll do.

(this time, just picked games that i mentally associate with ps3 the most, which meant more animegames than probably necessary lol. i did think about tlou but felt like i saw it more as a playstation game period than with ps3 specifically thanks to how far in the console cycle it was. sure it's only a year after asura's wrath but that game is very much more "of its time" than the bridge to ps4 that tlou is)

Nailed it, this is my vote.

I dont even like MGS4 at all but it needs to be there as in many ways the last big third party PlayStation exclusive. Which it has still maintained even despite very credible reports it was going to get ported to the 360 eventually. Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us need no explanation. I considered Dark Souls but honestly the PS3 was the third system for that game, it was bigger on both 360 and PC. Also in contention was Gran Turismo 5 and while at least one of Gran Turismo or Gran Turismo 3 should have made the PS1/PS2 Rushmores this just does not feel as impactful. So that really leaves a choice between LittleBigPlanet and God of War III as the biggest remaining exclusives and I have to go with the former there.

gran turismo i considered too, but the fact that the fanbase is pretty split between gt5 and 6, and even 5 prologue and hd concept, all of which had their time in the sun as "the latest gt game", kinda makes it awkward. (plus they're all kinda mid compared to gt4, which is pretty comfortably the overall series fan favourite now for a reason)

that's also part of why i decided to not just go the route of picking all exclusives tbh (since i rated them collectively over lbp and gow of the time as embodying ps3 culture, so not having a clear answer between them made me question if any of that should really be there, especially when none of that is what i actually think of when i think "ps3 games" for the most part compared to the truckloads of 5/10 jrpgs and "cinematic" qte fests lol)

I would never give it to DS1 because even though the PC version was later and a mess, that's what had it really take off. I'd sooner give it to DeS, but LBP was pretty big for a little while even if we've all forgotten about it.

Those saying Dark Souls probably would be better off picking Demon's instead as that stayed a PS3 exclusive and lead to Dark Souls.

I feel like Journey belongs on here. And GTAV just eclipsed everything else on PS3 in sales. 29 million vs the next highest at not even 12 million. If you combined the sales of GTAV on XBOX 360 and the sales of Uncharted 2, you would still not surpass GTAV on PS3. You could take the sales of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best selling games on PS3 and still not surpass it.

Uncharted and TLoU are obvious it seems like everyone knew that already. Demon's Souls I feel is also pretty obvious and I went with it over Dark Souls since its older and was exclusive. It also like Uncharted 2 released around the time the PS3 started to get really competitive with the 360 in sales.

MGS4 hasn't aged well and for that reason is the most replaceable game here, but it is the posterchild for "games you still need an actual PS3 to play" and for that reason alone I feel counts for something. It was also a rare third-party game that actually stayed exclusive, when most of the other big 3rd-party series (GTA, Final Fantasy, Tekken, etc.) that were exclusive to Sony or at least Sony-first for years also started releasing on Xbox at launch.

like half the topic i think the first 3 are basically locks for the PS4. the last spot is tricky because it can be a lot of options but i'll give it to the first time people were familiar with that part of FromSoftware. without Demon's Soul' success you don't get a "souls" game and its managed to maintain that legacy to the PS5 as basically the only exclusive on that console.
