I was just thinking about how I sold my Mega CD (Sega CD in the US) a looong long time ago, but now I kind of wish I hadnt. At the time, it seemed like the right move, but now I miss having it and its way too expensive to replace. Anyone else ever sell something and regret it later?

I once sold my Wii, my gamecube and my entire collection of GC/Wii games to afford to buy Star Trek Online. Massive regret.

STO is actually a much better game now that it is free to play.

I purchased another Wii and my collection for the most part is complete again.

I always kind of regret trading in my NES and SNES and games to get my first PS1. I loved the PS1 and didn't regret the trade at the time, but every once in a while I get a bit of nostalgia and wish I could play some of my old games. And I'm not going to deal with Virtual Console nonsense.

Of course, if I'm going to be realistic I don't replay the old nostalgic games I do still have and can play (including stuff like Final Fantasy 1/4/6 which I have in the PS1 ports). So even if I did still have my old NES/SNES it'd probably be packed away in my closet along with my original Xbox, PS1, PS2, and ColecoVision anyway.

Yeah, I almost never get rid of my old games/consoles, although with my gaming backlog being unmanageable as it is, I'm unlikely to go back and play anything pre-Gamecube era if that.

Pure sentimental value but I sold a cart of Lufia 2 in which I had 100% completion in including beating the AC multiple times(both correct way and glitch way)

I had a full set of base set 1 pokemon cards all 1st edition. I traded them away for some video games when I was like 11 or 12 and growing out of pokemon.

Yes. During the Wii U years, i sold my Gamecube games to focus more on Wii U and Wii gems i missed out on. I recently started to miss the Gamecube so i regret that. I should have kept my Wii for them too after getting a Switch.

Oh, and If you don't mind i wanna leave this here. None of the options given on the poll of the day are my game of the year.
Ender Magnolia was the best game I played so far.

Not selling, but back when I was into Pokemon cards (basically just in the very beginning), I didn't have much money so I had to trade for whatever I got. As a result I don't have a lot of the cards that I was fond of anymore.

I definitely have but I'm struggling to think of an example now, so I must be over whatever they were.

I did sell off a lot of games/consoles in the last year, maybe I'll come to regret those, but realistically I was never going to play them. So far I've held on to my most nostalgic games anyway.

Can't think of anything; I did sell some games but they were games I wasn't gonna play again anyways.

A chunk of my Pokemon card collection at a garage sale. I sold a couple dozen cards for like $60 dollars, which for a 13 year old in 2001 was a lot of money, but I definitely wish I had kept them.

That act in itself was a good lesson though, because I never made the same mistake again.

I sold FE Radiant Dawn because I didnt like it at the time, now it sells for $200.

It'll be interesting to see if it heads down a bit or if it's just going to go back up. I've been seeing a lot of copies going for a bit 'cheaper' than usual as of late. I rebought the case about a year ago actually, because it was a deal.

Phantasy Star Online. And the .hack series on PS2. I needed the money at the time and I certainly got it. But I really miss those games and they're ridiculously expensive to rebuy.

I expect it's going to go down pretty dramatically in short order because it was included in the list of upcoming games for the Switch 2's GC offerings. The physical version will still be relatively rare and therefore valuable, but the fact that there will be a legitimate way to play it without paying collector's prices is likely to cause those prices to take a hit.

I regret that all of my old pokemon cards and plug-and-play games melted in a house fire. If it weren't for one shitty electrician then I could be rich today. Bastard.

Possibly, but maybe not. Harvest Moon SNES is easily accessible right now on NSO, but is still selling for astronomical prices for physical.

Bonus points where the Tellius games are really the last of "classic" Fire Emblem. 11 and 12 could count, where they were remakes, but in many people's minds the series skips straight from 10 to 13, and 13 made some major changes that continue to guide the direction of the series. 9 and 10 strike a balance between tradition and modern mechanics that makes them still interesting today.

Otherwise, I think you've made pretty much all the points I would. Harvest Moon SNES is something people want to buy for collecting purposes, not to play, so being able to play it elsewhere won't do much to the price. FE9 is a game people want to play in addition to the collection value its rarity gives, so if they can (legitimately) play it elsewhere, that's going to have an impact on demand. Physical copies will still be rare enough to retain collection value, but with a drop in demand the price is likely to go down at least a little.

As a side note, Wind Waker, Soul Calibur 2, and F-Zero GX being the first announcements they make for GC games is a really weird mix. I'm guessing they're avoiding some flagship titles to avoid stepping on the toes of potential remakes or upcoming new entries, since with the GC we're getting into an era where the games are modern enough that there's a market to remake them instead of simply porting them for semi-free, but I still just can't wrap my head around why they'd choose those three.

Hard disagree here. Wonderful Life and Magical Melody come to mind, bogged down by unnecessarily cumbersome "realism" for the former and extreme bloat with the latter. The original is rudimentary but still absolutely worth playing, even for just nostalgia's sake.

I'm guessing they're avoiding some flagship titles to avoid stepping on the toes of potential remakes or upcoming new entries, since with the GC we're getting into an era where the games are modern enough that there's a market to remake them instead of simply porting them for semi-free, but I still just can't wrap my head around why they'd choose those three.

I don't see the confusion. I can't speak for F-Zero, but Wind Waker is incredibly requested and Soul Calibur was a great third party game with a unique guest character for Gamecube (that also ties with Wind Waker). NSO releases have always been sporadic and random anyways with no rhyme or reason. Aside from maybe Mario games on the 64 and SNES, we haven't really had any huge flagship titles at launch for any of the classic consoles. We got Yoshi's Story and Perfect Dark for the N64 one. Why?

It's been a really long time, but from what I remember there seemed to be way too much going on and it was too daunting for me to approach. Very bad for a completionist who also has a problem with trying to min/maxing Harvest Moon games. Plus I didn't really care for the chibi style, but that's just a personal preference. I tried playing it again relatively recently and the intro is stupidly long. I don't even think I got to the point where I could actually do anything before I just got tired of it and quit. So much talking.

Edit: I should say I don't necessarily hate it or that it's a bad game. It's just the game that turned me off the series permanently.

Original is nice and simple. 64 is obviously peak.

I guess WW and F-Zero do make sense (particularly where this is the first official rerelease GX has had), but Soul Calibur just seems really random. It was a great game and the announcer revealing it with "A tale of souls and swords..." stirred a bit of nostalgia I had forgotten was in there, but I'd never have considered it a high-profile GC game in the broader picture.

If they're digging deep enough for SC2, though, it gives me some hope for stuff like Skies of Arcadia and Cubivore that I never got around to grabbing while they were readily available, which were well-regarded but aren't necessarily anyone's first picks. I could always play them via other means, but a legit option would be nice.

Perfect Dark is at least broadly considered to be one of the N64's best titles. Yoshi's Story, less so, but meh.

Really I think a lot of it might have to do with Link as a playable fighter. It was a big deal at the time and it certainly was the reason I got into the series to begin with. But it's not unheard of that they throw in a random third-party title. They'll certainly do more of that in the future.

It's funny you mention Cubivore, I'm in a classic gaming group on Discord where we vote for a game to play every month between NES and PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era and Cubivore won this month. I vaguely remember it but never seen any footage of it until now. It looks pretty wacky and actually interesting. Never imagined Atlus developed it. But the big talking point for us is how absurdly expensive getting a physical copy is.

Also, didn't Gamecube have a really small library comparatively to previous Nintendo consoles? Would make the chances of getting the more obscure ones you're interested in more likely.

Yep. I'm tempering my expectations a bit because I've learned better than to hope for anything more than a drip feed of games nobody cares and the occasional gem with VC offerings, and as I mentioned before I'm guessing a lot of games will be held back for the sake of keeping options open for remakes (like we've recently seen remakes/remasters of TTYD, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos/Origins, FF Crystal Chronicles, Metroid Prime...), but a lot of the games I regret missing on the GC fell into that middle ground of "people liked this game at the time, but it probably wasn't popular enough to make a proper remake/remaster worthwhile" that is prime VC fodder. I also would have said that F-Zero GX absolutely has enough of a fanbase to warrant remaking it, and it still ended up on there, so who knows what to expect?

Hopefully it doesn't end up like the 17+ N64 one where we get three titles in total and nothing ever again

But maybe there's a difference when considering how many M-Rated N64 games there actually are

They don't always. Crusader of Centy didn't drop much when it was put on VC. I think I still have my copy but I highly doubt it works.

it's probably safe to say there wasn't very much existing demand for new gamers to play it when it got put on VC, especially compared to a game with a smash character

Pretty much. It all boils down to how much of the demand for the game in question is from people who want to play it and how much is just for collection value. If a lot of people want to play it, an accessible rerelease will reduce demand and the price can be expected to go down. If they don't, a rerelease will have little impact on the price.

It was basically a Legend of Zelda in Genesis. Except not as good and a worse translation. I have a cart somewhere but I highly doubt it works.

Not selling but rather allowing my friend to smash my ps2 after I got my fat ps3. I've had to repair my ps3 so many times now, I kinda wish I still had my ps2.
