All the moaning and arguing in the NYC topic got me thinking about this.

For me, its hands down the pollution.

What about where you live? Whats the worst thing about it?

But for 4 months out of the year, it's the unbearable heat.

Either heat in the summer or dirt when the wind is high.

Complete idiots, racists, MAGAs and crack heads = 80% of my town

The nearby river floods any time anyone so much as sneezes.

People complaining about Florida should try living in the Mid-Atlantic. Can't even leave your house 7 months of the year due to extreme cold.

I've lived in a small rural retirement town for 30 years. Dumbest mistake my parents made.

Unless you like walking/hiking there's not much to do. No public transport. Too many storms.

Florida vacay was the best time of my adult life.

Its a college city and its pretty diverse, which is awesome. However, it also has a really high homeless population and my state is super red and that super sucks.

Traffic and heat can both be considerations here. The traffic in particular bothers a lot of people because its not just the volume, but also the fact that theres basically no rules.

How hot does it get where you are?

Cost of living, gun violence, and the fact that national congresspeople that we have absolutely no say in electing exercise direct control over local affairs.

MAGA bigotry, bipolar weather, gun violence in a certain part of the city, and John Mozeliak not knowing how to run a fucking baseball team.

Chicago traffic/crime. And while crime is obviously the more serious issue, traffic is a significantly more frequent problem.

If you aren't a drinker or a gambler there really is no social life to be had here.

Weather. Hot and humid summers with nasty wrath of god thunderstorms every time it rains and in the heart of Tornado Alley. Brutal winters with -30 weather and blizzards usually although this year was really mild.

Outside that I love being in the middle of cornfields and cow pastures in the Midwest. Low population, cheap cost of living and very easy to live comfortably with a moderately decent job. I have the finances to buy or do anything I want. It is quiet and peaceful, low traffic, hardly any people at the stores. I love it. Though for others who actually like big cities they would argue otherwise.

But yeah I think the weather can be a pain in the ass.

Expensive as fuck and a huge homelessness crisis.

It's too spread out and there's barely sidewalks (and a lot of them just end randomly). Also I don't feel safe walking around at night.

I lived in Japan for a year and coming back to a life reliant on a car fucking sucked.

The trains tooting their horns are insufferable. It's done because of the pedestrian crossings but it doesn't make a bit of difference and just screws over the ambiance of the suburbs. People who are liable to get themselves killed by train at a crossing aren't going to pay attention if the train honks, and on top of that they travel at speeds where the honk isn't going to achieve anything anyway.

If that sounds like an ultimately minor thing it's because it is. I live in one of the single nicest places on Earth and I'm fully cognizant of that fact. It's pretty much the one and solitary thing in my life that went right.

Cost of living is the easy one. I make $100k a year and homebuying is completely impossible for me. Shit, even renting anything that's more than 1 bed/1 bath (not the most realistic for a family of 3 humans and 3 cats) seems impossible. Once my spouse goes back to work maybe we can afford that $6k a month mortgage -_-

Second one jmo is resources for children. There's one kid's museum that is half-assed and smaller and emptier than what they have in my hometown *and* it's more expensive. There's a "unified school district" so you can request transfers to higher rated public schools, *but* if you want to get to the *highest* rated public school you have to live in the bougie town that is separated by one street from the rest of school district (there are actually two like that).

AND... the schools and centers remind me of my childhood. Which is great for nostalgia but not great considering that was like three decades ago.

It's Missouri, so basically everything

It's all dirt and sagebrush hills around and wildfires in the summer that sometimes get too close for comfort.

I live in London, basically you could sum the worst parts up as bad weather and everything now costing a lot.

Aside from the somewhat questionable politics, can't really say that much bad.

I live in NC. Great place to live, but we've a swath of idiot goppers who keep voting in more idiot goppers, who in turn, are trying to turn NC into a nazi funland.

Sigh. At least we've got a dem governor.

High cost of living, homelessness issue, and traffic, while not the worst I've ever seen, definitely isn't great.

Of these three issues cost of living is the worst though as it personally affects me, and has a direct link to the homelessness issue. I can at least deal with the traffic even if I don't like it

The people of Bakersfield are generally just awful. So many terrible people running around doing shitty things and making the world around them worse than it was when they arrived. Bakersfield wouldn't even be a nice place to live if the people were decent. But the the people here are some of the worst people that I have ever had the displeasure of being around.

It's full of idiots. It also has a train that runs right through the middle of town at the most busiest intersection and it backs up traffic several times a day. The heat and bad weather suck too.

Summer. I hate the heat and work in a warehouse that's not climate controlled.

The neighbors across the street with there used car lot of cars lining the street.

traffic is already way worse than it was prepandemic, then I could get from one side of the city to the other in an hour if you werent afraid of cops, now its an hour and a half for half of the distance anytime after 3 PM (and morning rush hour). I have to work 5 12 hour days in a row I cant be spending 3 hours a fucking day in traffic when I live in the fucking city.
