In the last VGC season before a new generation comes out, the VGC rules allows for the use of all Pokemon that can be legitimately obtained in-game or transferred from a previous generation except for the Mythical Pokemon (all Mythicals are banned). The Game Boy Color was barely over a year old when Gold/Silver was released on the system. Game Freak so far has never released a brand new generation game on a system that's been out for less than a year. They would have to break with tradition here if we are to get a confirmed Gen 10 release date that is less than one year after the Switch 2's launch (though that system has confirmed release date either).
