The Gulf of Mexico has carried that name for more than 400 years. The Associated Press will refer to it by its original name while acknowledging the new name Trump has chosen. As a global news agency that disseminates news around the world, the AP must ensure that place names and geography are easily recognizable to all audiences.

AP isn't even ignoring it. They're just using both names.

There are way more people than there are law enforcement and military combined. We just don't have the ability or desire to organize like that yet.

There's really only one answer to it and (myself included) most of us do not have what it takes to push back.

Literally Nazi Germany all over again. Anyone that speaks up is forced out of office, or Dear Leader smears them publicly and turns his base on them.

There's lots of things you all can do without risking getting shot even.

Organize, talk to your neighbors, show them what's actually happening, protest, practice direct action, picket, boycott, strike, call your legislators incessantly.

If everyone who said they couldn't do anything or waited for someone else to do something just took the actions available to them, we'd be in a fundamentally different situation.

We are fucked. Too many escape systems for people to not care (Netflix, video games, movies, cell phone apps etc). The average Joe probably can't even educate on issues either without falling victim to right wing propaganda takes too

This is pretty much not true, but that doesn't mean its not their perception.

The reality is that fascism cripples trust in many critical free market institution which tends to cause large-scale withdrawal of capital in the market and a lack of investment. Oligarchs then use the opportunity and direct political intervention to seize distressed or undervalued assets which allows them to accumulate power and become an institution in and of themselves. Which is how most oligarchic systems develop historically. Some of those that are standing at the top benefit, and some of them get thrown out of windows.

Burn out is the major reason why we see this, I think. Trump's going to have to do something really bad to get people to snap back to reality quickly at this juncture.

the passivity was not on accident. it's how decades of media manipulation and propaganda conditioning, as well as the onslaught of nonstop outrageous shit the Trump administration is doing, has primed us to respond. one half of the country has been primed to think this is great and this is what they want, and the other half has been primed to think there's nothing the common people can do about it anyway.
