So approximately 31.8% of the country wanted this

Less once you start factoring in all the leopards getting their faces eaten now and regretting their votes

Things have already become materially worse already for a ton of people. Why wouldn't we be pissed?

I don't know if anyone is going to be able to follow me on this one, but: LMS has that "politics is just sports" mentality but is also the kind of guy to call it "sportsball", and if you think about it like that his posts make a lot more sense.

You know what else is supposed to cause inflation according to economists? Inflation expectations. So if lots of people expect prices to go down or stop inflating, that may cause that to happen.

In Venezuela, Maduro tried stemming inflation by capping prices on certain items. As a result, fewer of those items were produced, which led to panic buying, which led to limits on how much a customer could buy. As a result, there were stores selling fewer items to long lines of customers.

Turns out that mass deporting people brought the issue that some of them worked the fields for agriculture, so...yeah. Now those spots are empty and will impact the economy.

I visited my Republican parents and they tried convincing me that Musk didn't give a Nazi salute. When I told them it was clearly a Nazi salute, my dad started yelling at me. This conversation was happening with Fox news on in the background. Good times.

I think it is important to note that Musk himself has never denied it as a nazi salute, and in fact has "joked" to it in fact being a nazi salute.

It is gross on multiple levels, even if you at this point gave him the benefit of the doubt that it was lnt a nazi salute, you are now down the road of someone that thinks nazi Germany is something to make light of.

At this point one thing is clear, at "best" they have turned a mistake(unlikely) into a dogwhistle to the growing nazi population that they are acceptable.

Other part of this: Literal nazis have made a home on twitter. They are free to spread as much hate as they want and they are safe from moderation.

There are a lot of them. It doesn't take much searching to find them. You browse a little bit of political twitter and you'll probably come across them. They are spreading and the way twitter curates what people see they are successfully spreading their idealogy.

It is dangerous.

The fact that Trumpism is still sensitive to Nazi association is so sad. It's such a weak attempt at authoritarianism. But it is certainly an attempt.

Who brought the subject up in the first place? Were you crazy enough to bring up politics with Fox News viewers, or did they just start talking about how Musk definitely didn't do a Nazi salute in the middle of an unrelated conversation?

by now, i've seen plenty of people on the right say "uh yeah, that was clearly a nazi salute." if you're still on the "he's just an awkward dude" train, there's no saving you.

but of course i can't criticize anyone for supporting these motherfuckers, that's "victim blaming."

Possibly. My parents have always been republican but they were never very political. But over the past 10 years or so, they've really drunk the Kool-Aid. Every time I visit, Fox News is usually on, and the first thing they greet me with is an update on the days talking points, which usually starts with "Can you believe the Democrats did this?" or "Can you believe the Democrats said that?" Funnily enough, its rarely ever positive news about what the Republicans are doing, but mostly just negative news about Democrats. Once they catch me up on the day's topics, only then can we converse like a normal family about normal things. I love my parents, but they can be a bit much sometimes.

I meet a lot of rural landowners in my line of work and a conversation I've had about a dozen times at this point is them asking if I watch the news, me saying no, and them saying "Good for you. I can't stand the news. Watch it all the time!"

Genuinely, we'd be in a very different place as a country if FOX News didn't exist.

Think it's more telling that McConnell either does not have the pull or will not exert it among Senate Republicans. Like him being a no vote couldn't sway even one of them? (Murkowski and Collins don't count this is 100% a vote they'd cast regardless for their "concerned moderate" cred)
