I have a friend who works as a civilian with the army in HR. He told us today how he had to get on a call and listen to a bunch of his team members get fired. The supervisor tasked with doing the firing cried on three separate occasions. He had emails bounce back throughout the day of people he was in frequent contact with, some even during that very same day. My understanding is that all of these people were not white. The Army also apparently fired all the women on advisory boards today.

This anti-DEI shit is wild. And for everybody else the idea is to get them to quit so they don't have to pay unemployment.

The hiring freeze left them unable to complete the onboarding of around 20 people into a new station opening up. Many of the employees had moved to the area, signed leases, basically what you do when you are relocating because that's how close the process was to being complete.

This administration is having instantly shitty effects on a large portion of the country. I don't know how long things will be able to hold before crumbling.

Also this pro nazi stuff dates back at least to Trump's first administration, probably earlier.

I recall a teacher being reprimanded and suspended for writing a college board rescinding their letter of recommendation for a student who had made a swastika out of tape. There were people defending it even then as 'kids being dumb'. Two other teachers there were reprimanded for talking about the incident.

We decided to make Nazism acceptable and deniable, which has allowed it to fester. We can either choose to continue to let it fester, unabated. Or we can stand up against it.

They blame it on cancel culture and the woke movement. "Watch out, if you sneeze the wrong way, you'll get canceled."

They follow that logic through to the point where even if someone does something undeniably and overtly racist, sexist, etc., they blame the backlash on "overreacting snowflakes" who are either misinterpreting things or blowing it way out of proportion, or even just trying to push their own woke agenda.

This enables them to be okay with more and more extreme ideologies because their focus isn't on the actions themselves, but rather on the reactions against the action. They care more about the reaction than the action itself!

I'm trans AND in education, the school and the state are on my side but let's not pretend they're gonna choose me over federal funding :D

incidentally what are some good fields for remote work for somebody who might need to find a new career at 37 and may or may not be able to leave the house at all within a few months. I'm thinkin data entry but I imagine AI is gonna chew that up pretty soon.

Unlikely a ban will happen at this moment though I did raise it internally. In the meantime I've got tickets logged for Fandom Wikis, Phoenix Sites(GS, CV, and GB), and of course GameFAQs to allow the embedding of BlueSky. I discussed it with Tim(Director of T&S) and will raise it further next week.

Small victory, with potential for larger victory down the line?

Almost all foreign aid frozen for 90 days (exceptions for arms to Israel/Egypt no exception for Ukraine/Taiwan). Insane.

I was interviewing for a federal government job with a security clearance slightly before the election, but I went with another private industry job instead. A big factor in that was that the government job wouldnt have actually been able to start until I got a clearance, which from what I understand typically takes like six months to a year. Wondering now if that job offer wouldve been cancelled by this hiring freeze if I had taken a tentative job offer there instead.

Yes, and that situation is immeasurably better for the country than one where the only people fired are the ones Trump has deemed unnecessary. Because in the former case the firing others actually affects them, they have to find and train new people while everything grinds to a halt in the meantime. Maybe they even say fuck it and don't fire everyone because replacing so many high level people would be too much work.

What's the difference between a loyalist and a non-loyalist who does whatever they're told, by the way?

It is way less bad press for them if 20% of the federal workforce just goes "fuck it I got a different job that pays me better anyway." It looks way worse if it is just "hey we doubled the unemployment to own the libs." They're dumb but they're not that dumb. I expect them to RIF very specific "woke and scary and bad" positions and then do things like reduce benefits and end locality pay and make their job impossible to perform. Things that really hurt them on a personal level but that the average American will not care about because they are selfish and bad and happy they get to say mean things about trans people without repercussions. Then a big chunk of federal workers quit, things break down, and they can go "see this system doesn't work!" and privatize as much as they can.

Government workers are by definition loyalists. They have given up self-determination in exchange for a secure job. But now it's not secure anymore.

This is actually the biggest risk they are taking by using the Musk strategy with government jobs. You can't have loyalists if they are paranoid for their position all the time. That's why Stalin and other dictators failed. It's fine with Musk's companies because they are venture capital motivated by profit, but it doesn't work at all with government positions motivated by security.

The President of Colombia basically said if youre going to treat migrants as criminals and forcibly expel them by military plane, were not going to accept them. Create a respectful process.

Gaetz tweeted this wild tweet, but also Eric Trump tweeted and deleted a tweet basically saying Tariffs are just the start, we will FUCK YOU UP.

It could definitely escalate to real war. This will be a defining moment for how other countries respond to retaliatory tariffs, so it will probably get more and more heated. Colombia has less to lose so it might be a smart move for them, but it will definitely cost a lot for both their people and ours.

Probably worse because it validates the idea of using tariffs to bully smaller nations in Trump's eyes. Of course, it's not Colombia (or any other country's) responsibility to endure hardship to prove a point when it's our country that caused all this by putting a petulant manchild into power again.
