Is anyone here a fan of Severance?

Wonderful show with a great cast. Season 2 premieres tomorrow on Apple TV after an excruciating three year wait. I highly recommend this show to everyone and with an 8.7 on IMDb, the majority of viewers agree its a show not to miss.

In addition to always being available on its Apple TV home, season 1 can currently be streamed for free on the Roku channel.

Due to the California wildfires, members of the cast took to NYCs grand central station for some viral marketing this week.

Easily my show of the year in its first season, and I've been waiting with baited breath for this second season since its announcement. Cannot wait to watch the new episode!

I still remember the season 1 topic, I think it was posted by FFDragon, or if not posted by him he was certainly hyping up the show, which is how I ended up watching it & also loving it. With truly the best/worst season cliffhanger of all time, lol.

And in turn I also got my parents to watch it, I wasn't sure how it'd go over since I didn't think it'd be their cup of tea but they also loved it, and every few months for the past two years it's been "any word on Severance, when's it coming back?" so they're pretty excited too.

Episodes come out at 12:01am on Fridays according to thefutoncritic, I assume that's Eastern Time so will be a weekly struggle to not stay up past midnight to watch it asap and instead wait for my Friday lunchbreak like I probably should be doing, lol...

but yeah, strongly recommend for anyone venturing in here who hasn't watched it yet, Season 1 was just such a unique television experience and hopefully Season 2 can maintain that.

I definitely spent a lot of time trying to hype anyone I could to watch it. I made at least one topic and then posted in any follow up once.

Looking forward to it! Season 1 was great stuff. Crazy it took this long to make another season though.

I cant make any promises this will work, but give it a try.

Any time after 9pm EST on the day before a new episode, go to the season 1 finale of Severance. After the episode ends, just let it run. It might even get into the credits for the folks who dubbed characters in various languages. Just let it keep running and see if the new episode autoplays.

For whatever reason this has been working for me all season with new episodes of Silo. Fast forward through the prior weeks episode, hit play just as the credits roll, wait a couple minutes, ???, profit

The wife and I typically watch them a day early, but I have tried this before 9pm and it doesnt work. So seemingly 9pm eastern is the magic hour.

edit: I wasnt very clear but in theory, you may be able to watch the season 2 premiere in 6 hours and 10ish minutes from the time I made this post

Haven't watched the show yet but it's been on my list

Watched it last year and the wait still felt like forever. Even other shows I've watched since then just leave me thinking "...but when is Severance back? I should see if there's news on Severance..."

I'll probably still wait for the season to finish though before watching

I get what you mean by kinda sucks, or at least I can get behind the comment. Silo has its flashes but is inconsistent and overall isnt as good as Severance. I really enjoy a few characters in particular. Season two really dragged out storylines despite the show being adapted from novels. I was also disappointed when they killed off one of the best actors and another character was stuck in the same location all season.

I recently saw Silo was greenlit for season three and four which will be the last seasons. So hopefully its a little more focused and overall better moving forward. I recall an interview with the writers of Lost. Some characters were in prison and the writers said it mirrored how they too felt trapped by uncertainty around how much longer the show would run.

Tying this back to Severance, it sounds like Ben Stiller and the creator Dan Erickson have a clear picture of the story they want to tell and it seems Apple will be willing to accommodate them telling that story in the number of seasons they feel is best.

Which by the way, the creator of Severance did a reddit AMA. He was initially quoted as saying it could be 3-6 seasons, and I believe later said his ideal was 4-5 seasons.

mother in law is in town, we watched season 1 with her over the last few days. she is nuts for the show like me and the wife

upon rewatch i think it is one of my favorite shows ever

season 2 premiere is just as good. they just need to keep the quality and then end on a high note and this show will be legendary

Ah yeah. I wasnt smart enough to think about that myself but I would be shocked if this isnt the case. I am so sure it is Helena that I almost wish I didnt read this as to preserve the surprise haha

Loved the first episode.

They seem to be really heavily implying that Helly is Helena, yeah. Her mannerisms were totally different and she lied about what she saw. It was enough to make me think the twist might be that thats not the case!

Finished the season 1 re-watch and watched S2E1 tonight.

Like most of you my group (me + wife + her sister) also decided that we think it's Helena infiltrating the group. There was one exchange where I thought maybe it wasn't the case, but the other clues feel pretty overwhelming. There is also just not really a logical other reason for Helena to agree to return to a Severed floor. She did her time, got her story and got out (nearly dying for it). No shot a probable billionaire is just going to be clocking into a 9 to 5 just because. She's got rich shit to do.

The only other thing to add though is that if she "reintigrated" then she should have Helly's memories in there too, which she doesn't seem to have. So she's still severed, but her chip or whatever must have been altered to ignore the location based severing.

I wanted to see more of Mark's family. I wanted to know how Devon and Ricken reacted to the end of season 1. My assumption is that they relayed what Mark Innie said about Gemma being alive to Mark Outtie and that's the reason he wanted to go back to work straight away (assuming that line from Milchick was actually true).

Another sneaky thing regarding Helena infiltrating the group is how we got a transitioning from outie to innie elevator sequence for Mark, Dylan and Irving but not Helly.

Its framed as leaving you waiting a bit for dramatic effect but in reality I think it was done to draw attention away from the omission

Ah I didn't notice that, but I was also suspecting right off the start when she exited the elevator in like, a full-on sprint. Whereas Irving was still banging on the door and screaming for Burt, the Helly innie would've still been giving her speech too, wouldn't she have? though I guess if she was being tackled when the switch happened... but yeah between that and the computer, and lying about who her outie was. What's the rationale for doing that - being embarrassed to tell the group that she's an Egan like, thinking it would cause friction between them? But she hates her outie so much and it's irrelevant to their situation, that seems unnecessary to lie.

Considering we're in pure "unreliable narrator" territory here I'm really interested in seeing how things play out.
-How long has it really been?
-How was everyone roped into going back in?
-Dylan didn't have a switch-off moment and I also caught how he said Milchick "just tackled me" but like... what happened after he got tackled? unless Milchick literally choked him unconscious or tased him after that tackle, how did he deal w/ Dylan there? not like Dylan would go "ok you tackled me, I will just walk to the elevator without resistance now", lol.

If episode 2 is entirely on the severed floor too it's going to make me even antsier about what's going on on the surface, what the passage of time truly has been, and what the state of the outies is in that time. Like part of me gets outlandish thinking about Lumon having hit squads to take out everyone who connected with the innie's on the outside and they've kidnapped their outies but then it's like, well why wouldn't they just kill their outies too. Why would they go through all that effort to keep them alive and keep up appearances that their outies are living business as usual while they're working the 9 to 5 schedule like normal.

Gonna be interesting to see!!

I guess I should have questioned that more. I took the 5 months information at face value, but when you consider the fact that Milchick's computer still says "Hello Ms. Cobel" definitely calls that into question. That seems like something that would have already been resolved.

We saw documented examples of them lying to mess with people in Season 1 - thinking about Milchick "running a (i forget the number sequence)" on Irving re: different colour-coded badges in that purge painting. Which it feels like they're doing again with the outie "visitor wing" blueprint/secret that Dylan's now keeping.

It's hard to take anything they say at face value, i mean the key question being if you believe the newspaper was real, or fabricated? If fabricated then it calls everything else into question.

I liked the second episode. After the huge melty reaction from Selvig at the end of the episode Mark needs to go apologize to his sister and explore making sure its Gemmas body. presumably Devon meant exhuming the body?

That interview scene with the conversation about doors was really funny.

Episode 2 spoilers:
Re the Helly/Helena theory, we didn't get new evidence but we did get a very interesting twist in Helena's possible motivation. Before it was reasonable to assume that she was spying on/influencing the group on the company's behalf. Now it seems she might be doing it on her own initiative (and without company approval) because she's jealous of Helly and wants to experience a life with meaningful personal connections that has been denied to her by her upbringing. Love it.

Some other interesting notes re: Episode 2

-I didn't have subtitles on when I first watched and couldn't make it out at the time but checking it now, and when Irving's making his payphone call and leaving a message he says "I want you to know my innie got the message" (!!!)
-While the other three team members got the elevator 'ding' noise when they were going down, she didn't, which also helps with the "it's not Helly R" theory that's feeling more fact than theory, lol
-Also interesting that new bearded character guy did say the board would give them what they want "including Helly R.", which raises the prospect that Helena is going rogue in this instance and nobody else is aware it's her outie on the severed floor, which also ties back to Denji's post and I'm thinking he's correct there!

Episode 3 spoilers

Was expecting it at some point and even today watching the episode, was thinking how it had to happen eventually, but can't believe we're already there. Very exciting!!

I've said before that watching Severance is like being in a constant state of panic. And I stand by that.

Yeah Im not very familiar with The Who outside of the obvious Baba OReilly, Who Are You etc. but Eminence Front is really good
