Really enjoyed this GotY. If you are one of the people mad about the Eurovision method (Im not) they returned to the old way this year. Still havent played the winner but it was a very Giant Bomb decision in a good way!

For real though, I stopped watching Giant Bomb GotY entirely when they changed formats because it just all felt totally pointless to me and wasn't enjoyable at all, so I look forward to watching again for the first time in....God, I don't even remember how long it's been.

I think my favorite part was Turbo Shaun's teary eyed speech to get his game into the top 10

Not my GotY, but I'm happy to see some Prince of Persia rep since it felt largely overlooked for a pretty great game

At least a third of them are contract employees who dont receive healthcare or benefits from Fandom so thats why they can have this many people there. Not gonna blame these people for decisions made above them though

Then you will be happy! All in the last day though, but there is a lot of passion and about a lot of different games not just a big two or three like in some years. Shawn is a GOTY beast.

I rolled my eyes and paused the video when Shawn started arguing against Erdtree being eligible before they even finished constructing the unedited list. Is he gonna be tryhard about this shit the whole time or can I continue watching without getting immensely annoyed

Theres no other conversations like that, it was just to establish what counts. It is an odd situation as I actually agree with Shawn but theyve always allowed DLCs in game of the year so its fine.

Yeah, that was ridiculous. The series has a cult following to this day for a good reason. Fantastic characters, story, voice acting. Okay gameplay. I played Defiance (which I know isn't part of the new package...) for the story, not because the more action based combat was that interesting.

With that and Shawn with Persona 3, it was like, if you get teary eyed you get to push your "baby" way further than it should go. They're just remasters of old games! Yes, I understand you love it but just because it gets what amounts to a re-release doesn't mean it should take a spot away from a more deserving game that actually came out in 2024.

Also, if I never hear the phrase "got its flowers" again, it'll be too soon. "Oh, well we gave this game an award with one of our random categories, so it's okay to not get it on/push it up the top 10." Stupid. When people look back, they're going to the top 10, not the random categories.

Finally caught up on this! I enjoyed all the GOTY podcasts, first time I finished all GB's goty casts since... a really long time ago!

Only cringe moment I had to skip past was Tam gunning for Legacy of Kain (like others above said). A "collection" re-release should never make a GOTY list in any capacity. It's downright offensive IMO, to all the original games came out in 2024. Especially when only 1 person on the staff cared about it. Especially when his argument was literally "well it was good originally and wasn't appreciated enough at the time". Plus they have other categories to celebrate re-releases and collections.

Well I also skipped past the Persona 3 bits for basically the same reason, although I don't know enough about Persona 3 Reloaded to be sure it's not a full-on capital R Remake. But c'mon. All the games to celebrate in 2024, why would you ever pick a remake, unless it is mind-blowingly reimagined or something.

Anyway, that being said, GB is really good in general right now IMO! Best it's ever been since like 2018 probably, in my opinion. I've actually been skipping Nextlander's pods lately and just listening to Bombcast.

Although, Fire Escape is still the best of all of em! Especially their GOTY casts, those are all-time classics, so freaking funny.

Its Remap > Nextlander > GB for me. Overall, not just talking about GotY content. Too much GB content just feels like a podcast while someone plays a game in the backgroundand the conversation is just rehashing the same topics over and over again.

Dang, I haven't really tried remap, but anytime Patrick guest stars on Nextlander stuff it's awesome so that makes perfect sense.

I really feel like Nextlander is missing some key final ingredient to reach excellence. I love those 3 guys so much, but I think they're on too similar wavelengths, or something, they need someone spicy to antagonize them.
