My biggest worry is still that people just don't want to vote for a black woman. Look at how many publications are refusing to endorse that Endorsed Biden because Trump was dangerous. What's changed since then? If anything January 6th made it more important to stand against Trump. Now you have USA Today, WAPO, and LATIMES refusing to endorse. And while part of it is probably them just wanting tax cuts, I can't help but feel it's also rooted deep in racism and misogyny. I don't see them doing this if Biden were 20 years younger.

It's probably because they are afraid of retaliation from Trump if he wins.

LA Times was bought by a Musk equivalent and Trump punished WaPo owner Bezos financially for opposing him.

These aren't secrets they've already been revealed. Thus WaPo losing 8% of it's subscriber base in just a couple days.

It's specifically the super rich higher-ups at those publications that aren't allowing endorsements. They want Trump to win for obvious reasons. The actual editors and journalists at them want to endorse Kamela, but said executives won't let them, hence the resignations after they were scrapped.

Three notable European elections.

The big one is Georgia (not that one) where the current pro-Russian authoritarian government was re-elected despite massive opposition and amidst widespread allegations of voter fraud. Huge protests happening right now.

There is also Vlados home of Bulgaria which is having its seventh election in four years (yes). Unsurprisingly it returned almost the exact same result as last time, meaning that the gridlock will continue. Also, a far-right party missed the threshold for representation by just 25 votes, talk about close margins.

Lastly Lithuania, where the centre-left has won. Sounds pretty good right? Unfortunately in Eastern Europe a lot of the left wing parties tend to be socially conservative because they are descended from the communist parties. Since red sox in the last topic was suggesting a socially conservative, economically left wing party would be popular, in most places where this is tried it fails because the actual overlap is thin. Not so in Eastern Europe because of the former communist parties. At least they are pro-west there.

Anyway thats your Europe update. The Georgian one will probably be quite important.

We went over this last election. The early vote being high doesn't mean a surplus of extra voters. It means votes transferred from election day to mail in.

It can be both. Some people end up not voting on election because of the extensive delays and long lines, that will happen less with a larger % voting ahead of time.

I would bet a lot of money that if Haley had gotten the nomination, and had continued to run as a never Trump Republican, she would have steamrolled either Biden or Harris. I don't like her but I just think this is hard to deny.

Now she's practically persona non grata, and her voting block is currently one of the most noteable Republicans for Harris blocks out there. After losing the nomination she could have EASILY been the one touting that campaign instead of, or at least alongside, Cheney and Kizinger, and would have been one of the faces of this election cycle.

What a fucking fumble.

My concern with the Detroit turnout is that its so high because its people turning out to vote against Harris over Gaza. At least for a third party candidate. Not trying to be a doomer, we will not know until we know.

I'd hope they'd at least be holding out until election day, giving Kamala a chance to change her mind. I don't think she will, but I'd think they'd at least wait for that.

Statistically there's two things fighting against that.

1) It's just simply not going to be as big a factor in a city that is 76% black.

2) This is more anecdotal, but I just don't think protest voters are making an effort to early vote in massive numbers. This is a group that knows their vote is meaningless, they have little incentive to rush it.

If he wins it's like a 50% chance this happens, 50% chance it's permanently scarring country killing new world order stuff. But that's like 49% too high for comfort.

You're wrong that all his fascism is just circumstance or an accident. It is bumbling and imprecise and opportunistic, but it's still something he will continuously promote and escalate for 4 years straight, and beyond if he can pull it off. Whether that actually results in permanent damage or not is up in the air, but why even take the chance? He might even die relatively soon, which adds even more variance into the mix.

I do think it's wrong to think everything is doomsday the instant he wins. It's a very naive revolutionary mindset that believes that the job is done once the revolution is over. No, you still have to run a government, and you will have all the problems that all other governments have had. Like was pointed out many times, all fascist leaders have failed miserably because they are dumb and bad at their jobs. At best, Trump would be no different. It just introduces so much unnecessary suffering for no reason.

The biggest concern is that he's going to fire a bunch of federal workers and replace them with sycophants. That's going to be really hard to undo if he's successful.

Something I saw someone say that was trying to analyze how big the fallout has been even though he isn't the one to say it is that it's BECAUSE he wasn't the one to say it. There's a real likelihood that he would be getting almost no blowback for this if he himself had called Puerto Rico an island of trash during one of his rambles, because it's just baked in Trump. However, because it was said by someone in front of a Trump podium at a Trump rally, it's been singled out and exploded in a way it never would with him, because only Trump can get away with being Trump.

It's like how Vance was hounded for weeks for refusing to say whether Trump won in 2020, while Trump just says he did all the time and nobody actually cares anymore.

If every single Biden voter who voted in the primarily Arab region of Michigan voted not only against Harris, but for Trump, and everything else stayed the same, Harris would still win.

There is no doubt support from Arabs in Michigan will slide away, but Biden won Michigan by 150k votes.
