Fair enough but it was pretty much Bloodborne before Sony made them change it, it's still basically it.

How much the Uncharted IP has escaped everyone's memories as less than a decade ago, B8 would have Unkarted as their predominant answer.

If pun potential is taken into consideration, Kingdom Karts has to be up there. Even limited to just Kingdom Hearts OCs and the most prominent Disney characters (Donald, Goofy, Mickey, Maleficent and Pete), you could make a good roster, but if you add other Disney characters too then there's huge potential.

Pokemon had a racing game on DS, not karts though. It's a shame Nintendo has kicked all non-Mario racers to the curb.

Heh, this topic came to mind after I watched a streamer playing Diddy Kong Racing. What a strange choice of game that was for Rare to make, why just Diddy? Could've had a whole DK racing thing but they decided to make a ton of cutesy original characters instead.

So the story behind that is that Rare initially made DKR as a sequel to RC Pro AM with Timber the Tiger as a new mascot character. They showed the game to Nintendo behind closed doors at E3 '97 and Nintendo was reportedly very impressed. However, they also had to admit that Banjo-Kazooie, which was gonna be the flagship release for that holiday season, was gonna need to be delayed by a few months, so Nintendo offered to promote RC Pro Am 64 as the big holiday release. However, they knew that was not a big name, so they offered Rare essentially a guest character from their library to headline the game. And due to creating the character for Nintendo and as a representation of their working relationship, Rare chose Diddy Kong, and then added Banjo and Conker essentually as secondary guests (which is why, in-manual, those characters were "invited" to race rather than inherently living on Timber Island). And that's why they take forever to re-release the thing; Rare owns most of the game, but Nintendo completely owns the main character and title of it.

Anyway, to actually answer the prompt Marvel Vs Capkart would be pretty fantastic.

It's a bizarre choice, but it ended up launching two other franchises, and the game was really, really enjoyable. All in all, a great risk they took!

Yeah they announced both Conker 64 and Banjo-Kazooie in the E3 before they made DKR public. Banjo was an IP Rare was making for Nintendo, while Conker was gonna be Rare's self-owned flagship platformer IP. Then Conker kept spiraling off in different directions until the team got fed up trying to differentiate it from Banjo and put all their frustrations into Bad Fur Day.

Though to be fair, there WAS a possibility for DKR original characters being spun off. Timber was supposed to be the protagonist of the game that would eventually become Star Fox Adventures, with artifacts of that still seen in the final release - the triceratops boss from DKR was meant to appear in a younger form as Timber's little dinosaur sidekick, to the point where even in the final release, both the DKR and SFA triceratops are named "Tricky".
