Try, Try Again Cold Metal Sword of the Surviving Guardian > Try, Try Again > Snowfield > Cold Metal > Challenge > The Merciless Savior Snowfield - 8.5 wow, this is a fucking beautiful song. perfectly encapsulates the name. I'd vote for this in a good chunk of other matches probably. unfortunately... Sword of the Surviving Guardian - 9.5 yeah uh this is my favorite song from this game bar none. absolute fucking banger. Try, Try Again - 8.75 on the flip side, this is prooooooooooobably my least favorite Dream Team battle theme? of course, that means nothing when DT has the best selection of battle themes out of every M&L game (BIS has the best one, but the average DT battle theme is still better than the average BIS battle theme). just a really fun and cozy song that reminds me of better times. very nostalgia biased here and I do not care. Challenge - 7.25 gotta say, I'm disappointed. the intro had a lot of promise, but it never really went much of anywhere. decent vibe, that's about all I can give it. Cold Metal - 7.5 well that's some album art. seemingly lesbians though!!!!! hell yeah!!!!! anyways decent song, not sure what I expected but it wasn't that. The Merciless Savior - 7 yeah I dunno, this one never did much for me. got some decent parts I guess, but I think I prefer nearly every other Trails song I've heard, if not all of them. --- Erica, she/her. Sword of the Surviving Guardian Try, Try Again The Merciless Savior Snowfield is very pretty. The strings makes me imagine it's a PS1/SNES RPG and that eases the thought and the lead inserts a sense of kindness. I think this is suitable for a cold place and also suitable for a heavily emotional scene, as hinted by the upload itself, but which context I lack completely. Clannad is just full of bliss tracks and I seem to never have enough of it, nice job. On this other side, I feel like I've become a big fan of recent Meta Knight themes after not liking the original a lot. The guitar on this is pretty good, I like how RoMK Ending is used and the brand new melody feels on point. This amplifies much more the "arena" match rather than the high stakes clashes of other games, and that's also a plus for me. While I don't dig this as much as the first time I heard it, it is still one of my favorite FL songs. I gotta vote for Meta here, but Clannad always pushes a heart onto me so I don't mind if it takes it. Good timing! I've been watching a Dream Team playthrough. Am I tired of hearing this song over one hundred times? No, not really. On a focused listen, I realize how "tropical-ish" this song feels, and it adds a surplus to my excitement. The percussion is so fun and the melody feels adventurous. I think Yoko nailed a good direction with this. By the way, the part at 1:30 always catches me by surprise and it gets a little danceable for a second. Honestly, this is much better than I had in mind. Okay, Challenge is a challenge to describe. The loud guitar is a curious intro. 1:13 is definitely the best part of the song but the buildup leading to it is messy. The last minute is much like the buildup except it goes into other directions. I don't know, if this is trying something innovative it's not really getting me through, it's all over the place. Point for Alphadream. Why, hello Nitroplus. Can't say I expected a western song from this title, I was expecting some JRPG boss shenanigans. The vocalist is pretty decent, but the thing that catches my eye is the instrumental. This might be common stuff for spaghetti movies, but the orchestra elements added to the song works wonders. Whatever this brass instrument is, it gives it a spice of originality. This is very good, pardner! Laslty, we encounter another VGMC classic. I have some found respect for this song, its very climatic. The chorus section is SO GOOD, I have to keep getting reminded how imposing it sounds and how well it introduces the melody for the strings to follow without missing a beat. As the rest of the song continues, the strings just doesn't stop making poetry. That loop point transition is also great. Very chilling song, and it gets a safe vote from me, definitely one of the very best of Falcom. ... Copied to Clipboard!

It makes me want to explore all the M&L soundtracks. Merciless Savior is a classic I will always root for. It's ranked... #119 in my 2024 vgm rankings. Sword of the Surviving Guardian Challenge The Merciless Savior I guess? Rouuuugh day for Snowfield. I like it a lot, but Sword of the Surviving Guardian is one of my favorite new discoveries of the contest - I have it winning Bracket C! I completely overlooked this song during nominations but it really swept me off my feet. On the flip side, Snowfield is a radically different song - immersive and depressing, it really envelops you inside. As much as I love Sword of the Surviving Guardian, I won't mind at all if Snowfield wins. I supported Challenge. It's another song that really blew me away. Try, Try Again Cold Metal Snowfields repeating sequence of crystalline chimes is my favorite thing about it, being a strong reason why the song feels both cold and sad. Clannad - Snowfield: Very simple but pretty song. Definitely makes me think of snowflakes softly gliding in the wind. I wish it had a stronger melody though.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Sword of the Surviving Guardian: Really good song that would sound so much better with real instruments. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - Try, Try Again: Yep, that's a Mario and Luigi song alright. Very bouncy and whimsical, befitting of the tone of the series. I love the flute too ofc. Final Fantasy X - Challenge: I would like this so much better without the constant siren sound in the background. Zoku Satsuriku no Django - Cold Metal: Alan Wake....SIKE! Anyways, it's cool. I appreciate the energy and passion in the vocals, and the orchestration is epic. Despite this, the vocals still aren't really my thing but that's okay. Good song.
