No Turning Back Quatera Woods Hook This Genshin Impact thing is decent, a little bit too cliche but it's solid. Which, of course, means it slips into my R4 in a weak 8 pack. 6.5/10 The Mission THINK thing is just kinda whatever. I don't really have an opinion on it. 5.5/10 Dearly Beloved is boring. 4.5/10 Quatera Woods is... yeah, it's very Ys. It's not terrible but I'm not that hot on it. 5.5/10 Matchup of two pretty weird songs. I wanted to like Prontera Field but ended up finding it annoying for some reason. I don't really get what it's trying to go for. Some interesting sound design but I didn't really like listening to it. 5/10 Hook's the only thing I like today. You have to be into avant-garde sound-music that sounds like it was randomly generated by an algorithm, but I am into that sort of thing. Nice little music box of weird rhythms and sounds. 7/10 ... Level 4 Dearly Beloved abstain This title reminds me of that time I had to guess a song with a picture being a No U-Turn sign. I guessed Point of No Return (Eschatos) but it was No Turning Back (Mega Man 10), so I was fuming. The first part is nice, saved a lot by the synth and that fast percussion. The second part is quite more interesting by introducing the guitar and other elements, that bleep-bloop pad too. I guess it's a good song but it's not doing fierely for me, it lacks something else I can't quite explain. Hm, guest star band for educational game? That's quite a pairing. I'm feeling the fusion over here, and I don't think... sorry, T.H.I.N.K that the hardware is holding it back, it's very clean. This song definitely gets cooler as it goes, with the last bit being magnific. Even if the whole song isn't the catchiest, I can enjoy this for the sake of being fusion. Onto the votes it goes. I'm not sure what is my favorite DB version, but I think I love every one I've listened. This is probably one of the best main themes of any franchise, it encompasses the emotional weight and the heraldy of the whole thing with gusto. The intro on this one is a warm welcome, and the slow piano is quite nice. I don't know if I would like this much having never listened this before, but I have a lot of respect for DB in the present. Ohh, what do we have here? This melody is.... surprisingly not Falcom, it's bizarre. It reminds me of other things; definitely Forgotten Land! I guess I feel weirded out by that 0:50 part. The initial lead is also quite unusual, but the kind I like. I think this song overwhelms me for better or for worse, but it gets my respect. My vote? Uhh, I think I like Dearly Beloved enough that I will stick with it. Oh boy! Wasn't expecting Kanno to hit me with experimental hits (apparently this genre is named musique concrete or electroacoustics, after a quick googling). This is an absolute blessing to my ears. The sampled guitar and castanets along with the everyday sounds is just so original, and I love it affectively, kind of reminds me of the very best of Katamari. The chorus is also a sweet addition at the end. I don't know to explain this, it just chugs happy thoughts. Might be one of the best songs I've heard so far in this contest. Um, real quick, let's go to the next- you cannot be serious. DAMN IT! Now I can't make a joke about SNES hidden gem Hook, because I like this a lot! This song is doing so much interesting movements and they shake my brains north and south, east and west. Can't help but feeling attracted by this sounds, they just work like a machine. The buildup also adds more funny sounds as a treat. This match feels intentional, and wow, it intentionally pisses me off. Both of these songs just take me for a ride and I like them both for the same reasons. What the hell do I do here? ...abstain? Fine. Out of respect. No Turning Back: I love the buildup in this one. Very cool synths with subtle strings and an awesome climax with the e-guitar. Very fun, well-written piece.
Level 4: Very funky track. It feels dated, but it's still a lot of fun. The primary groove is great. Good song. Dearly Beloved: This isn't my favorite version of Dearly Beloved (that would be the KH3 version), but it's still really beautiful. The harp, piano, and strings combination is great. Good stuff. Quatera Woods: I'm not a huge fan of the synths used in this one (they feel very dated), but it's a nice enough piece otherwise. Prontera Field: The only Kanno in the contest. One of my favorite tracks from RO2. I love the usage of loops and how they build on each other throughout. Adding the children's choir towards the end is a great addition. Really great song. Hook: Very glitchy and odd rhythms that I find very intriguing. The production is great and while it is a bit unconventional, it's really well-done. Another great song that has unfortunately tough competition. Big fan of today. No Turning Back Dearly Beloved Hook THE BUBBLES!! no turning back is my favourite genshin song :)) mysterious, tense, and climatic. I wish my ass could vote for more of these "this game has MUSiC??? That sLAPS??" (YouTube Commenter voice) sort of songs. Dearly Beloved (Kingdom Hearts II version specifically) is my "I'm not immune to nostalgia" moment, which is weird bc I'm not particularly attached to the franchise or even Shimomura in the grand scheme of things. Quatera Woods Hook oh. yea. fuck. no turning back was the really good one. and level 4 was. also the really good one. I forgot there was a genshin song I rlly liked in here.... making me decide is mean. I have a simple answer but I do not like my answer they call it dearly beloved. and yet. that is not at all adjacent to how I feel about the song. funny how these things work. oh. I thought it was one of the more. me-core Ys songs. it's not. I far prefer it to dearly beloved but I'm not rlly a fan of it either. sadly OH THIS IS SO MEAN. Genshin Impact - No Turning Back Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim - Quatera Woods Ragnarok Online II: The Gate of the World - Prontera Field MATCH 1 So I mentioned No Turning Back in my writeup for Across Dimmering Asterims as an example of a Genshin Impact song I like amidst many others that I'm lukewarm on. I'll be honest, I had no idea at the time of writing this that No Turning Back actually made it into the contest lol. Now that I can actually expand a little more on this song, I like this one over most Genshin Impact because it feels more melodically interesting to me. You have this interesting buildup featuring the interplay between the synths and the piano. You also have little flourishes of other instruments like strings and an electric guitar. And then at 2:59, you get the climax you were waiting for where the instruments get louder and the arrangement feels more full. Really cool song, and I'd love to hear more Genshin Impact songs in this vein! Level 4's pretty decent too. I can't put my finger on what this song reminds me of with that intro, but it's something. Possibly the intro to Everybody Jump Around from Jet Set Radio? That's the closest thing that comes to mind. Anyway, the guitar parts are fine to listen to, even if not the most engaging thing in the world. There's some cool electric organ and piano parts in the song too. MATCH 2 I've always liked Dearly Beloved. It's a nice somber, emotional song. That said, for some reason, it doesn't hit me as hard emotionally as I'd like it to. Quatera Woods isn't my favorite kind of Falcom song, but it works here! The melody's decent enough, and it sounds really cool at 0:49! That part and the remaining part of the song up to the loop point is my favorite part of the song. MATCH 3 I really like the guitar in Prontera Field! I don't know, I just feel something listening to it. Especially as the guitar parts come together more after 0:49. Not really a fan of Hook. Prontera Field > No Turning Back > Quatera Woods > Level 4 > Dearly Beloved > Hook ... Copied to Clipboard!
