Fire Island Volcano Specimen of Life - Extended Version - Dance of Wind >= Fire Island Volcano > Stilt Village > Chromesthesia = Specimen of Life - Extended Version - > VEX DAY TRANSFUSE.EXE Dance of Wind - 8.5 trying to overlook my bias against the source material here. wait this fucks what??? this is WAY better than the other song from this game that Kecleon keeps pushing (Her Ghostly Highness) wtf I kinda love this. instrumentation's a *tad* obviously fake but eh I don't really care this still bangs Chromesthesia - 7.5 oh damn she's cute. anyways not what I expected but it's decent enough Stilt Village - 8 cool composition, sounds pretty good for GBA but also would be far better with most any other post-NES soundchip I imagine lol Fire Island Volcano - 8.5 PMD music seems to be a sizable step up from mainline music in most instances from what I've noticed. this is a great example, after the buildup this is a really cool song Specimen of Life - Extended Version - - 7.5 okay this is not what I expected from a rhythm game song. not huge on the vocals (especially in that isolated section early on) but the guitar carries a lot of my opinion here I think VEX DAY TRANSFUSE.EXE - 7 ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh? I struggle to word my feelings here, but the vibe's not particularly my thing (though not inherently bad) and it feels like it doesn't need to be this long. I dunno. --- Erica, she/her. Dance of Wind Stilt Village Specimen of Life (Long Version) I got really excited at seeing the name of Whitetail, Them's Fightin' Herds is a favorite of mine and I'm so sad the game got screwed by its publisher, loved so much the dynamic soundtrack. Speaking of dynamic, this track sure is a nice and simple buildup. I think it just works, the melody gets more danceable and awesome as it goes and the traditional instruments don't feel displaced at any point. I feel this is a good example for someone to point out if they need easy templates for VGM, it's simplistic but very enjoyable. Another banger by Whitetail! Oh this song bears some big 31 Sentinels similarities, it feels just like the style it would go for. Very upbeat and great, the strings and synths mystical structure is just very satsifying to listen. It's just very nice and very powerful, even somewhat danceable, I enjoy it. I'm staying with Tribal, but it's a great showing for all. DKC3 GBA , ahh!! *monkey screams* Um, moving on. Stilt Village is a song that stands on par with previous and future DKC 1-1 music (I'd say it beats Mangrove Cove, even). It's a song that reflects well the natural elements the game proposes and mixes it with some dance elements for a genius result. I can think I can condone the GBA quality because hot damn it's amazing in everything else. The guitar melody is really catchy. I actually really adore this flute starting in 1:30 and throughout the rest of the song, I start realizing this is where David got its ideas for chords he would later explore in Tropical Freeze and other 2010's compositions. What a genius OST, I'm glad they re-contracted Wise even if it was late. Novakovic is a composer I respect, but the original DKC3 is largely forgettable, and Wise just brings it back altogether. Fire Island is simply amazing! The didgeridoo and the celtic style (which I just noticed was in this song) is very notable, but the song manages to stand out fiercely even if we stripe this elements, with the trademark PMD music direction going bonkers and making a upbeat experiences. This is what, the third celtic style in the contest? I'm not complaining, though. It's good nourishment for the ear. Tough match, but Wise impresses me more at the end of the day. Big fan <3 Hello, Akiko! Back again after the great work that Moonlight Concert did last year (yes, reminding everyone). :) Oh my goodness, this doesn't dissapoint. Very chilling! The vocals are very good, the usual for Akiko's work, but the song is also very very danceable. Big fan of the stuff the vocals do used as notes, too!! To top it off, the violin and guitar are super pumping. Wow, we hit the jackpot here, haven't been this excited from a song for a long time. Marvelous work from Shikata, but can it be topped by well-regarded X-DAY? Well, hmm... I don't think the whole thing is perfect, I think the sections could last shorter than they do and get a better result. But this song puts a tough match. It just does a lot of reallty fascinating choices that transports me to a era of virtous technology and a fatidic future. The instruments are just very efficient on impressing me, and the vocals at the end are the crowning star of the magic. This is a majorly difficult match, but I have to go with Akiko, this might just be a candidate for me to win the whole thing now, sorry X-Day. Gosh, such a great day! I love it to pieces. ... Chromesthesia Fire Island Volcano VEX DAY TRANSFUSE.EXE Dance of Wind is unremarkable - I'm sorry but I'm just so distracted by this, I'm looking at the artwork for this track and I'm just like immediately pegging this artist (or the artist who designed these characters) for being a fat/inflation fetish furry, I'm like pretty sure I have maybe seen this artist around before but I'm not sure but I'm like *pretty* sure, anyway, sorry, that has nothing to do with the music I'm just wondering what this game is 5/10 Chromestesia is pretty good! I think I'm mostly just a fan of the character design though. She's cute. Why am I getting so distracted by the art in these matchups 7.5/10 Stilt Village is a weird one. Usually when I give a song a low score it's just because I don't think the song has good taste, or at least it's not to my tastes (and I think I have good taste), but in this case this is a song that's ostensibly to my tastes but I think it's badly executed? I dunno, maybe it's just the GBA soundchip not doing it any favors but it just sounds really sparse. I don't really like the guitar hook very much. It kinda gets more interesting later but I dunno, this doesn't recapture the DKC2 magic for me. 4/10 Fire Island Volcano sure is a PMD track! It's very adventurous and bombastic and I like it. It's got the right levels of cheese. 8/10 Specimen of Life has way too much cheese. Way, way way too much. I'm almost impressed by its commitment to the bit of making all the most epic choices possible, between the guitar, the violin, the vocals, the random breakdown to a sad music box. I think this is deeply lame, sorry! 2/10 This X-Day thing is no ULTRA GAY MIX but it's pretty alright. I found the hi-hats started to wear on me after a while. Dance of Wind Stilt Village VEX DAY TRANSFUSE.EXE Matches 1 and 2 are a nightmare fourpack, god. So happy Dance of Wind made it in. It's such a joyous song, full of bouncy energy. It's a great song for getting energized; I feel like I can do anything when I listen to it. One of my favorite discoveries from my ranking topic. Chromesthesia sounds a bit like Umineko zts, though with a unique spin on the style. Now, onto DKC3a. I'm elated that something from this soundtrack got in. DKC3a is my favorite Donkey Kong Country soundtrack, and given my high opinion of the rest of the series' music, that's saying a lot. Those of you who complained earlier about GBA sound quality will find something totally different here. I sincerely hope you enjoy. Oh but Fire Island Volcano is cool too! (no pun intended) I've always liked this one. I love the didgeridoo at the start that gives way to this fiddly, jig-like theme. It's a very fun song, especially at the start of the loop. Very strong fourpack for me! I also like the slow build of VEX DAY. I'm not as into match 3 as I am the first two matches, but VEX DAY is a song I could see myself coming back to. ... Dance of Wind Stilt Village VEX DAY I want to say more about how this song is a banger, but I can't as but I am feeling super bothered by the OC with the guitar + mic in the Tribal Hunters thumbnail. It's like they gave up trying to draw a gator/croc mouth and put on a generic moe blob feline-y face instead in an attempt to make it look more "soft/cute". Stilt Village Specimen of Life (Long Version) Dance of Wind is okay, but it's just the same thing over and over in a way that doesn't particularly appeal to me. While I do wish Chromesthesia went more places, I love the windy instrument that plays. Though I like most SNES DKC tracks better, Stilt Village is pretty good! FIV never does anything for me. Ya go my Akiko Shikata. She rarely misses. Always love the sound of her voice, and the instruments are good too. All the sounds she makes are such fun. Chromesthesia is almost exclusively used in missions where you're up against the Light Pollution group while at their base during missions in either chapter 4 or 5. It's also used for a series of sidequest missions accessible from chapter 4 as well. A lot of the missions in that area tend to just be boss battles (which all have unique songs), so it doesn't appear to get used that much. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Still, the modest 10 floors serves as a reminder that I wish mystery dungeon dungeons were longer again...Super specifically has a shorter floor count in a lot of dungeons to balance out that combat is much more difficult and taxing most of the time, because the basic attack was nerfed to the ground and enemies are a lot more threatening. --- :) ... that's fair, i opted to not comment on whether it was a justified shift given the circumstances, i just still kinda wish it was the old style. at least this way, the dungeon themes actually get consistently used through all of the dungeons lol, it just also feels like they aren't around long enough... ...
