Black tar Morning Light Hymnus Nuedori As far as anthemic anime-rock goes Lost in the Abyss is pretty solid! I think it's got a catchy chorus. It's nothing special but it's solid. 6.5/10 Dang Black Tar is pretty cool... HAHAHAHAHA OH NO. Ohhhhh noooooo. I recoiled in horror when the vocals started. I can only like this from an ironic-bad perspective like Crush 40 stuff. .......But I DO kinda like it from an ironic-bad perspective. It's trash in a really fun way. Sure, why the hell not, this'll probably be my most regrettable 7/10. 7/10 I wanted to really like Morning Dew, but it's a little bit too early-Taylor Swift country rock for me. It's just not my style. I think it's mostly fine, but I wouldn't come back to it. 5.5/10 Morning Light Hymnus is HILARIOUS. Actually let out a hearty laugh. Totally impossible for me to take this dramatic opera singing seriously. Today is really a day for getting weird, sick joy out of terrible vocals! 6/10 Vector to the Heavens just feels like stock 'emotional' music to me, doesn't really suit me at all. Far from Shimomura's best. 4/10 Hey, it's Utawarerumono! That means it's a completely fine piece of music that I'm not that excited by! It's alright! 6/10 ... Copied to Clipboard!

Morning Light Hymnus Vector to the Heavens Black tar > Morning Light Hymnus > Lost in the Abyss > Morning Dew > Vector to the Heavens > Nuedori Lost in the Abyss - 7.75 I think I'd like this a sizable bit more with a different vocalist, not huge on her voice but the rest is pretty sick Black tar - 9.5 fuck you this song absolutely rules. legitimately my third favorite Xenoblade song rn (Counterattack > Moebius Battle > Black tar) I love this song so much Morning Dew - 7.5 lyrics carry, rest is fine Morning Light Hymnus - 8.25 opening already caught my attention. strongly reminds me of Yasunori Nishiki (a very good thing), and oh hey there's a song by him on this soundtrack in my recommended section that explains a lot. oh wait a second I'm over 4 minutes in and I just realized the vocals are in English, that's not a good sign. genuinely thought they were in another language bc I couldn't make them out and that'd be typical for a song of this style. hmm. yeah I think that knocks it down just a little bit for me, rest rules tho Vector to the Heavens - 7 yeah the original version of this song never grabbed me, I'm gonna be honest. nice melodies, but kinda boring and oddly cluttered execution. I recall the ReMind version being sick tho, I'll relisten to that later I think Nuedori - 6 have I mentioned that I struggle to get into songs with non-English vocals? yeah this is no exception, even disregarding that the instrumental isn't particularly my thing and the vocal melodies aren't anything amazing. barely even registered the song ending. --- Erica, she/her. Black tar Morning Dew Nuedori Oh, bonus ZUN track. Well, let's see what is it about. Oh, Parsee's theme? Interesting, I would actually like to see Green Eyed Jealousy have a shot on its original form. The instrumental is very excitring and the vocals feel strong, nothing wrong with that. I guess I'm just put off it doesn't really remind me of Parsee other than the initial verse; this is par for the course for most of the Touhou doujin things I stumble upon and why I tend to avoid them. Don't let that make the effort of the song in vain though, for it is still very capable on its own. Also those small glitch noises are a neat detail. Oh well... too bad it's again this monster of a song! I like both parts pretty well on their own, but the medley pushes them to another level. Favorite parts? We're Stuck in a Different Planet, Where's The Relief, We Can't Come Back Where We Came From, I Need a Bigger Gun, Show Me Show Me, Endless Waaaaaaaaaar, Different Planet (Reprise), Black Tar Covers Most Eyes. It's a song that solidified my love for XCX music. Even more, the instrumental is so absolutely bad bone. Easy choice, really clear, this song just bulldozes. Ah, this is some radio music, but I think it's the type I can appreciate. This voice sounds pretty sincere. The instrumental makes me think of a morning dew, going for the more natural direction and all. Quite nice really, pretty heartwarming, I like it. Is this the demon dude from Monster Prom??? Um, anyways, this feels like some lost Octopath track. Intense orchestral and choral singer, yeah it fits well, which can only mean plus points. Ohh, I like these dissonant parts starting from 2:20. Yeah, it's quite good, I really don't know what to pick. I don't want to abstain either though, so let's go with Dew, if I had to get it down to vocals I'd pick her. "Song I Supported vs Song I Wish I Supported" is back! Uggh... Vector is a wonderful, chilling melody. I just have a soft side for 358/2 Days music, and the simple piano+strings are a strong suit for an end-game theme of this magnitude. The Dearly Beloved thrown on it amplifies the feelings as well. I might not be the greatest KH fan, but I can appreciate beautiful music like this with all its laurels. Ah, I'm happy to have Nuedori back, really glad this has another chance after losing for so close on VGMC 16. I sing this chorus to myself sometimes, it's great. This verses also hit harder than my memory knew! This instrumental is fantastic as well, I enjoy those tribal additions and the bridge is also so cool. Strong and lovely, awesome. I guess I can be happy with whoever wins this, but I gotta push for Utawarerumono today (did I spell it right??). Stacked day! B4 is pretty promising. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Black tar: The synths in this are so good, and I love everything about this song so much. The EDM drop in the second half at "How do I know?" gives me chills every time. Morning Dew: Nice song with a nice vocalist. Morning Light Hymnus: Definitely feels like a JRPG battle theme. It's decent, but nothing outstanding. Vector to the Heavens: My piano bias is gonna influence my vote on this one. Nuedori: This is another nice song with nice vocals. The instrumental is pretty solid too. Very good day. Morning Light Hymnus Vector to the Heavens I love Touhou remixes that don't sound like the original. LitA rocks. Black Tar isn't my favorite XBX song. It has some solid melody, but the vocals kinda suck, especially the lyrics. I like it better when it's all autotuned Still, not bad or anything. Oh no a real song. Get out of my VGMC. MLH is great. Love the choir and the instruments. The guy's singing isn't my favorite, but it works and gives it a unique flavor. Vector doesn't do much for me. Not my kind of piano song. Nuedori neither. Black tar Morning Dew Nuedori --------- I haven't been here for long, but I thought I'd try my hand at some critiques; no offense is intended in any of them. (FYI only: I have a strong classical leaning and instrumental background, a B.A. in music, M.Ed, and ran a music department at a k-12 private school. I have quite limited experience with VGM and video games. I'm old.) I did not prioritize grammar and punctuation. Here goes: MATCH 1 "Lost in the Abyss" - Not chosen What is with the weird enunciation? It's not cool, at least to me. Unimaginative rock song, basically 3 chord, standard beat, and bass that occasionally does octave jumps and just one or two blues scale runs. Same with lead. Repetitive and typical; kind of similar to my actual "School of Rock"-type high school music students' jams. -- "Black tar" - voted Yes. Fun opening, now going standard. These two are twins, it seems Well..maybe...Rap, hmmm; okay I guess. Combined, sounds cool, driving, intense. Nice contrasting vocal section. Cool electronics. Nodding my head to it now. Another nice section and build. Not incredible, but kind of ear-catching. Tiring of it now...but just mzde it. ---------- MATCH 2 "Morning Dew" - voted Yes. Pretty voice, gentle, clear lyrics. Very standard musically. Pleasant to me, but I was an unusual 70s teen (Yes, that means I like romantic ballads.) Not innovative, but it's not TRYing to be. I like well developed lyrics and intentional simplicity. -- / "Morning Light Hymnus" - Not chosen. So-so start, overused maybe? And there goes that rhythm again (two measure hemiola). Very imitative of Carmina Burana, no doubt, just with basic power chord rock added, too repetitively. One little different measure interspersed, imitating Bernstein. Kind of an odd big voice approach to the ear of a classical choral/opera-loving guy like me; composer was seeking and expecting greatness? -------- MATCH 3 "Vector to the Heavens" - Not chosen. Sounds quite pretty, right from the start, a la Hisaishi movie soundtrack, so it is quite derivative of his work; but with with synthetic strings, of course, no problem there; that said, and despite being repetitive, it's quite nice and decently put together, just not unique. -- / Nuedori- voted YES. Nothing "wrong" here, to my tastes. I wanted to listen again, so that's a Win! I like the voice, accompaniments, melody, variety of modulation, melodic bits, rhythmic fun, and creativity. ... Morning Light Hymnus Nuedori Between Speed of Light and Heal the World and now Morning Dew, Im charmed by Arknightss willingness to be so straightforward lyrically. As Heal the World felt a bit like dramatic musical theater, Morning Dew definitely has the feel of a classic I want song. Since it was in 2 years ago, Ive listened to the Natsuki Chronicles OST and found Suspicious Blue to be one of my favorites in it. While I do love Yousuke Yasuis tendency to be super bombastic and in-your-face, this one is pretty laid-back while still having the angular synth goodness.
