I guess theres a difference between wanting to work and enjoying your job.

For example, all through HS and college, I worked at an amusement park. Everyone, other than the main bosses, were all in the 15-20 year age range, so going to work was more like getting paid to hangout with friends than actual work.

I walked around the arcade giving people change and getting tickets unstuck from the machines.

It was a job, but no where near what I would call work.

some folks are ambitious and are really driven to be productive. i am not one of those people.

I think a lot of people understand that they should contribute to society in some way. The issue is the balance. Most of us aren't contributing to society and thus getting taken care of ourselves. Instead we're making rich people richer while barely scraping by.

work in education, love it, genuinely do want to do it a lot of the time especially in those times when I can really see and feel the difference I'm making

met plenty of old people who do it for fun, human interaction, and a reason to get out of the house

they want to do it... but maybe that doesn't count because they're just trying to have human connections that an economy driven society have buried in business and employment

That's the "bullshit job" swimming pool. Those that actually contribute like artists, teachers, or entrepreneurs probably add more the our existences. Meanwhile some jobs revolve entirely around a bottom line that really doesn't mean anything.

Have met plenty that hate not working yeah. Who you can ask what theyre going to do when they retire and one of the first things on the list is get a job.

Im certainly not one of them though. I would gladly never work again if money were no issue.

Boomers did. An alarming number of them went back to work after retiring because they were bored

If I couldn't do my job professionally, I would do it on my own time, as a hobby.

I actually like my job. Its very consistent and gives me something to do.

With depression sometimes having a constant thing to occupy yourself with is a lifesaver

I honestly think the problem is that tech based work is just fucking soul crushing and depressing. Work can easily be enjoyable, but tech fields seem like an awful soulless place from everyone I've spoken to in person, but that's purely what I hear and not first hand experience.

This. I love my summer breaks, but toward the end I tend to start feeling shitty because it feels like Im just being useless. It feels satisfying to go out there and do things that benefit others.

I did.

I wanted to work when I was too young to be legally allowed to work. I helped my dad out when I was younger when he volunteered at a church festival in a beer stand, and some other time at another festival in a soda stand. I remember that time more clearly because there was a Snappy Tomatoes Pizza stand nearby and my dad asked to exchange our sodas with a couple of their pizza slices and they did.

I've always hated the idea of jobs and never wanted to work. Still don't like it, but my current job is about as good as it gets, tbh.

If I had a bunch of cash I'd retire instantly, though, and do whatever I wanted.

I've been unemployed for about two months now and my girlfriend occasionally asks if I'm depressed sitting at home alone everyday. Fuck no. Sitting at home alone is great.
