I've had similar reactions to hearing about that. I went to a small magnet school, so I never encountered that stuff.

I feel like there's no way it's as wide spread as people make it sound. But everyone swears that their schools all had 1 girl that would show up wearing cookie monster pajama pants

I went to school in Las Vegas and in Michigan, neither had a uniform. In Vegas they were much tougher on the dress code. No hats, bandanas, Mohawks, girls clothes had to be a certain length, but pajama pants would always be fine.

In Michigan the schools were so much nicer and better in every way, and they didnt care at all about the dress code. I wore bandanas, kids wore hats, I had a Mohawk, girls wore short Jean shorts all the time.. and surprise, the kids were a lot more well behaved in Michigan than in Vegas.

I also knew the pajama pant girl in Michigan too.

In Michigan there was an Asian boy who wore a suit and carried a suitcase, and also painted cat whiskers on his face and had a cat tail coming out of his suit.

in 2005. Nobody ever batted an eye

My son and his friends frequently wear flannel PJ pants to school in the winter.

It's basically their version of us older folk wearing joggers or windpants.

It doesn't really do much to educate kids for real life either, so that's not unusual.

No idea what it's like now, but I went to Catholic school from K-8th grade and, maybe it's becasue all of my friends on my block went to public school, but I had no problem assimilating to public high school.

Yes, I didn't know as many people as most of the other kids, but it wasn't like (after nearly a decade of wearing a uniform) I walked in an was like "what are these 'blue jeans' you speak of?"

My schools never required uniforms.

As long as you didn't show too much skin (tank tops/spaghetti straps was too much) and your shorts/skirts weren't showing off your underwear, they didn't particularly care what you wore.

I wore a (denim) jacket, denim pants, and a rotation of graphic tees most every day. At one point I had hair halfway down my back.

Jokes on me though, I went through all of school without a uniform or hair standards then went and joined the Army.

There was one girl in my middle school who got in trouble every day for bate midriff because she wore those like tube tops that were too short. Every single day.

I remember in PE in high school she told the teacher she couldn't run because she got her nipples pierced and they were too sore and he started gasping for a split second then said "Well that's a new one, never heard that before but yeah you can sit it out". She was also crushing and snorting something before class because the guy was always 20 minutes late anyway.

Only part of the dress code our school ever enforced was girls needing shorts/skirts fingertip length. There wasn't anything against pj pants but it didn't become a big thing until I was in college. Even then people were only wearing them to early morning classes in the winter. These days it's common for schools to have PJ days for kids.

The "joke" is that so many people from different schools all say that there was a girl that would wear cookie monster pajama pants at their school. TC is questioning how common that really was (I never saw that at my school either)
