I love this frugal spending side of CE. We need more threads like this in these trying times.

Anyways, the trick isnt eh exams meal 8 or 9 times. The trick is get 4 main courses, 4 sides and alternate between those In rotation. 16 different meal options.

That's basically a version of what I do, because im a pretty picky eater.
Hm, not bad, actually.

Food shopping is one of the few things I'm extremely frugal about. Always looking for sales. Willing to shop at 3-4 different place to get every item at the best possible price. Buying in bulk. Opting for the store brand wherever I know there isn't a drop in quality, etc.

And then i go out an buy a $130 pair of Jordan 1s. So I'm no saint.

Also dont you have a kid tc

i cook for my wife and kid all the time and we dont have a bunch of leftovers. Sometimes itll be something like a bolognese that is a bunch of servings and freezes easy but most of the time we have enough for dinner and maybe lunch or one meal the next day

still way cheaper than eating out

Cooking really well is a skill but just making adequate meals is unbelievably easy.
This. Baked chicken is as simple as pre-heat oven to X, put chicken in baking dish with broth, cook for X mins. That's about one step more than microwaving something.

Pickiness is the death knell of meal prep. My girlfriend has the pickiness and as a result, cost wise, my options as a more diverse eater and quite limited. Unless I want to shell out more money for more unique dishes but most times I just want to eat and be done with it.

I love food but I hate cooking.

Try sticking with chicken thighs. Find a recipe/spice combo that works and go with that. Thighs are almost fool proof, unlike breasts that are finicky as fuck.

I just rub some olive oil on chicken thighs, season, then bake for 50-60 minutes at 375 in a dry baking dish or pan. Use foil in the baking dish so nothing to really clean up.

OK. I think I figured it out.

You don't WANT to cook your own meals. And that's why you're making every excuse imaginable as to why cooking at home is "more expensive" than ordering in every night, despite people giving you a dozen reasons why it isn't.

I have absolutely no issues with eating a similar meal multiple days in a row. I'm making meatloaf tomorrow and it will be my evening meal for the next 5 days. But I will switch up the sides with it, and one or two days make a meatloaf sandwich vs eating it plain.

It's like when I make chili I will eat a plain bowl. I will make chili dogs. I will eat a loaded baked potato covered in chili. I might make some macaroni noodles and eat a bowl of "chili mac" Many different varieties to essentially the same dish.

I'm 48 and have never had an issue with leftovers or eating multiple days of the same dish. Have done it me entire life. I still get plenty of variety. For instance on the previously mentioned chili I last made it at the end of Winter and I won't make it again until Fall when the weather turns cool. So it gets a solid 6 month break before I make it again.

I make many different dishes and they get rotated so even though I may eat it for a week straight after it is done I won't make it again for months.

I haven't done a roast with carrots, potatoes, and onions in a low cooker since last year sometime. I'll make that in the near future too and I LOVE eating that for multiple evening meals in a row. I actually want to eat it multiple days in a row, not just one single meal.

I love cooking and have always cooked a lot but due to some dietary reasons I 100% gave up eating out in 2017. Every meal comes from my kitchen. It is definitely cheaper.

Unless Im eating Taco Bell, its much cheaper for me to cook at home in the long run. Even with current egg prices now, I can get a dozen eggs, English muffins or bagels, and cheese for like 5-7 dollars. Thats like a weeks worth of breakfasts. The same damn sandwich at Dunkin Donuts costs 5 dollars.
For dinner, I usually eat rice or pasta-based dishes. Good pasta dishes cost a helluva lot more, and if Im going to eat mediocre pasta, I dont want to pay for something thats twice the cost of the box of pasta and jar of sauce itself.

Well damn, I am back to meal prepping due to an unexpected expense, so here are some ideas .

Eat like a king for 3 day for 5 dollar.

Get a rotisserie chicken from Sams Club or Costco.

Although I find them to taste the best heres a trick to enhance the flavor. Put one some gloves and shred the chicken into pieces, wear gloves since this is the CE and you don't even now where you hands have been. Divide it into three equal portions. You can season each portion to your liking, but heres my method:

First Portion:

Combine seasoning salt, MSG, onion salt, garlic salt, and paprika (even if its just for color). Coat the chicken well with this mixture, then give it a quick reheat in the air fryer for added crispiness.
Second Portion:

Create a BBQ flavor with a blend of garlic powder, pepper, salt, cumin, smoked paprika, brown sugar, cayenne, and chili powder. This mix will give a sweet and smoky taste reminiscent of barbecue.
Third Portion:

For something different, try a Herb Citrus Seasoning: Mix dried basil, oregano, thyme, a pinch of salt, lemon zest, and a dash of olive oil. This will give a fresh and tangy flavor.

I am guessing most people have all these spices in the house already.

To go with it rice. Butter and salt is all you need for the first go around.
For the Herb Citrus. I would pair that with some fried rice. But not the complex version I made before. Heat up rice, throw it in a pan add some Soy to it. fast easy and cheap but not as good as the real stuff .
