I actually really liked those stickers that they would put on the ground at grocery stores, gas stations, etc. You know, the social distancing marker things. It made waiting in line much more organized and civilized, and it was fun to jump/skip to the next circle, like a game. I also liked looking for people standing in a way that was not 100% exactly on the circle. They were probably doing that to undermine authority, so I would always scold them and tell them to stand on the circle. It really felt good doing that, because I was serving my community and it really gave me a powerful sense of authority and accomplishment.

Some obligations I have were put on hold for over a year. The break was nice.

And there was just something satisfying about picking up food from restaurants to take home instead of eating out.

Free 10 days PTO for testing positive for a virus that did nothing to me. And an additional 2 for getting 2 shots. Did get it a 2nd time but it was much later and the free PTO policy had been sadly axed.

I liked how people regularly sanitized things. I also like how people stopped shaking hands. As a germaphobe, this was probably the only upside to the whole pandemic.

I think the increased cleanliness procedures were in many ways a good thing, especially in the food industry.

I also like to be idea of doing work that doesn't need to be done in person over the internet or hybrid. I feel like the pandemic pushed people into being a lot more comfortable with this.

Finally, on a personal level, I liked that several of my friends from years ago all got together and would watch movies and old TV shows on discord together, since nobody could go out and do things in person. It actually brought together people that I hadn't seen in a long time, which was nice.

**I guess one more thing that was pretty nice was the fact that I didn't need to get up super early in the morning most days, as I could work at my own leisure most of the time.

Not getting sick even once from March 2020 until like late 2021 or early 2022 was great. I've never gone more than like 6 months without getting a cold before.

Animal Crossing became a daily routine for at least 2 months. There has never been a better timed release for any other form of entertainment media ever.

I'm not exaggerating at all when I say that the only reason I knew what day it was for those 2-3 months was because Daisy-Mae came on Sundays. It really cannot be overstated just how much that game did to maintain structure in my life during a time that otherwise would have had very little. It really was a perfectly timed release in every possible regard, aside from the fact that Nintendo wasn't able to keep up with the demand for new Switches because of it (combined with major manufacturing delays, of course).

Hard choice. Uhh...

  • Being able to get to and from work without fear of being ruin over by idiot drivers.
  • Stories about nature coming back, such as dolphins appearing in certain waters
  • The vtuber boom (there were quite a few good talents born of this era)
  • The extra pay on my paycheck, which allowed me to pay off a debt before mid 2021 and still have spending money

Where I was living at the time had a very large grocery store, with like 15 checkout lanes, and like 12 self checkout locations. They shut down the self checkout, and had like 4-6 checkout lanes open at all times (24 hours), but they had 1 line that you had to go through before you were allowed to go to a register. So you had to wait until the previous person's groceries were already packed and they were paying. It was super efficient, and made it much easier to get around the store.

I wish it would come back. Well, I also don't live there anymore.

At the prison anything but legit necessary transfers halted. So two things rarely had to inventory a inmates property and the prison population shrunk to like 2/3rds of what they are capable of housing. Went from 700 which was the max to like 500.

There was some new headaches added with covid policy though but the no transfers where really nice.

Certainly the work from home, which I have been doing ever since. I had just got a 2 monitor and dock setup about 6 months before lockdowns started, and had already tried it out a couple months before when waiting for a delivery.

Also, since I was using the room to store a bunch of my mom's junk, I managed to sort through all of her old stuff during meetings and slow times at work. Made dealing with her "estate" so much easier when she died.

Hazard pay, the option to take as much unpaid time off as you wanted as long as you reported the absence daily, empty roads and $1.75 gas

Of course all that ended as soon as employees slowly got vaxxed and tested on a fortnightly basis.. then masks and 6ft enforcement

***t, I'm pretty sure masks are still mandatory in most indoor workplaces here

My job which never needed to be 40 hours a week in office has remained partially remote so now I actually only "go in" to work 2-3 days a week for a grand total of 15 hours and i do the rest from home. Still getting the same amount of work done to the same quality level but now also getting chores done and working out regularly again.

Obviously not having to commute to work (and if I had gotten free money to not even work, it would've been even sweeter).

But since that's too obvious, 2nd best part: watching all the extroverts freak the fuck out because after the entirety of human history having it be their world and introverts having to deal w/ it, all of a sudden, for a few mere weeks, they had to live in an introvert's world, and dear god did it enrage and terrify them!

At some level, I shouldn't too too smug about that, given that I know that not socializing for an extrovert is about as anxiety-inducing as socializing is for an introvert (putting aside for a moment the extent to which both concepts are on a spectrum) and that's just not pleasant, but after spending so much of my life being hit with "stop being antisocial" whenever I wanted to do something that didn't involve people, there was more than a bit of satisfaction in seeing the tables turned (and I'm not even actually an introvert, I'm just perfectly content to be alone).

seriously

we were in a pretty weird state for over a year until vaccines. no gyms, after like half a year could go eat outside with masks, and do other outdoor things, but not a lot.

Animal Crossing helped my sanity. had holidays and festivals there. concerts on Saturday lol. best timing it could have had..
