Yeah, it's hard to recommend the show to prospective fans knowing every viewer hits a 300-episode speed trap, which kinda defeats the purpose and entertainment. Might as well have just started with the manga from jump street.

Having watched both the anime (Granted, I'm halfway through Dressrosa, currently) and the live action series, I think I prefer the live action's pacing SO MUCH more. Yes, you lose certain characters, and some things don't hit quite as well... But I'll be damned if it didn't tell the basic story in a condensed enough nature that pretty much anybody could get into it, and I still loved every second of it, even having already far passed the story points it hits, in the anime.

Wano started as such a cool arc but it took so fucking long that I didn't really care anymore by the time they got to the final fights

I just wanted to move on to the next arc by the time the raid started

I love reading manga but I hate reading one piece. early on its fine, but I absolutely hate how cluttered the panels start to get. There's so fucking many panels and speech bubbles.

EDIT: I'm only partially kidding, too. Punch-Out took a character who, lore-wise, was SUPPOSED to be good (he appears in the World Tournament, despite seeming like a total scrub in his previous fight), but literally never showed it, and gave him possibly the most entertaining character in the whole game.

As somebody who was only halfway through Skypiea I am absolutely floored that they don't take on doflamingo for another billion years

Doflamingo being in the spotlight really was a high point. Such a great character.

Doflamingo is great, the arc just drags on for SO long. The last anime episode I watched, he had his head cut off, only to basically go "j/k, now time for the main event, which I will build toward for countless more episodes." And while I've liked what I've watched so far, it already almost felt like an entire arc, and now it feels like I'm probably only actually... Halfway through?

I came in here hoping to see a Don Flamenco reference. Was not disappointed.

Doflamingo was one of the hypest arc villains for me because he's the first one that had been built up over the course of the entire series

Others had been mentioned in passing but Doffy was really the only one who was actually present and doing shit prior to his arc

I feel pretty good calling him the Frieza of One Piece, that's how much hype I felt for his fight but then it dragged on too long and got boring

Dressrosa had some pacing issues but nothing there felt wasted. It was a long arc that maybe dragged at points, but it set up and paid off so many different things at once. I have no problems calling it one of at least top third islands. Then after that was Zou. Even as a furry, Zou was kind of dull. At least it had the only girls in One Piece I ever found cute >.> Whole Cake Island might be one of the best arcs period, and then we get Wano.

Had all the right ingredients to do everything perfect, and then spends a shitload of time doing the one thing One Piece has always sworn to not do. Waste our time with a damn training arc. It was also just, way too scattered, the characters who needed screentime the most hardly got anything, and by the time we got to some of the greatest moments in the series' history the anime had pissed away its budget and left us with little more than ugly smear frames and glitter bombs to hide how bad the animation was.

But hey. Egghead is shaping up to be another greatest of all time. Even if you're an anime only, I would recommend just skipping Wano and reading the manga instead. You'll get through it in a few days versus weeks and since you won't have to wait on chapters the pacing problems will sting a lot less. Once you get to Egghead you can probably go back to the anime. Well. Maybe. I guess we'll see. I still haven't forgiven them for glitter bombing the Kaido fight to the point you can't even see what's happening. Gear 5th was so bad people spent weeks trying to re-cut those scenes to make any amount of sense. Even ms paint amateurs on Youtube had stuff that looked better.

Whole cake became boring too, between luffy and the final bad guy he was fighting. Like, fight scenes don't warrant more than an episode. And yeah wano was so slow towards the end that I was relieved when it was over.

New arc seems better paced, but I know the show well enough that we will be slow again soon enough. I like the show regardless, I can't really handle the Manga.

I did finish out attack on titan via the Manga just because it pretty much sucked after the first season and there was no reason for it to be so slow.

I don't remember, was this when fluffy went joyboy or was it when he became giant? The cartoonist animations for joyboy is there because he basically has loony tunes superpower. I can appreciate that, the show was always silly like that.

I watched a few clips on YouTube of the anime's take on that, and imo it didn't look like Looney Tunes, it looked like shit.

It's pretty atrocious. Anyone whose studied animation; Japanese, western, doesn't matter, they'd all tell you this is really bad. There's a couple interesting shots (most of which are only good because they're recreations of the manga panels) but it's near impossible to follow visually, doesn't look good, and has some really off-putting directorial choices like the whole roulette wheel gear 5 graphic display for some odd reason. Again, for weeks people were trying to edit this to make it make sense.

Well I don't mind the silly loony tunes element. Some of the other animation elements were jarring though, weird particle effects and random 3d shots.

Dressrosa was the worst the animation ever became. She can atleast look forward to things being more consistent and better looking. Especially when wano starts. Pacing issues still about the same tho.

Just read the manga. Solves all those problems. Egghead arc has been next level.

But it's not that hard to tell what's happening in that clip. Not at all. It's also very well animated.

This whole Gear 5 "debate" reminds me of the Naruto vs. Pain situation, where people keep saying the animation is bad, but it's just... not bad at all. It's gorgeous.

There are a bunch of things happening that require knowledge of One Piece to grasp. For example, he's in his awakening form which lets him transform the environment around him into rubber. He's using that property to lift part of the floor, using that to bounce the enemy's attack back.

It's seriously not that hard to understand.

The things hard to follow is when hes airborne. So like no, its not because I dont know he makes other things rubber.

Its because the overly dramatic camera and frame second cuts to the dragon hes fighting isnt done well. I dont even get a this is so fast! impression. I get nothing from this.

Oh, I'm kinda excited for her to hate Sanji even more.

The Gear 5 was well animated, but you could tell they don't really know how to do classic WB cartoon shenanigan animation (to be fair, its not as though western studios don't flop on this too these days). Their choice of sounds and where they placed said sounds was especially awkward, with some parts just spamming cartoon noises one after the other with no sync to anything other than "he is currently moving so this is a good time to put noises in."

Whoever animates the next time that power comes up needs to be given a sit down where they have to watch all the Wile E Coyote cartoons before they boot up their animation programs. If only for sound direction alone.

The One Piece anime is a slog. It feels like I have been watching the Paramount war for months. Wait I have.

Well in the current ark, luffy is currently doing the joyboy thing, it seems fine. They toned it down some.

Every time I see a topic like this I automatically assume it was Pineapple who made it.
