my wife and sister in law are not a fan of the changes. We still go out and play at least a couple times a week so they are plugged into the game and still pretty unhappy.

It isn't "you can look exactly like you did before, but now you have more options" and is more of a "everything is different, and not necessarily in good ways"

The customization when the game first launched was so limited, I conditioned myself to just not give a single fuck about it ever since. Never spent any coins on clothes

There's nothing transphobic or whiny about this. These new avatars are genuinely hideous. The new models look like developer pre-alpha placeholders and/or like someone pushed "random" on Fallout's character creator.

Yeah I legitimately didn't even notice that the outrage is being attacked for being transphobic... that's not how I see the changes at all. They ruined the faces, trimmed back the skin colors, removed shapes, and made the sliders essentially break everything. I'm 100% pro trans rights and can't understand why hating the new designs means people are being transphobic.

Make it make sense to me. I really don't get it.

I changed mine yesterday. Didn't hate it. Badly tested, because some of em show crotch with certain combinations of outfit/post - they really should've thought that through.

Wish there was facial hair.

I mean, the transphobic part is when you look at the Twitter replies and see a bunch of people being transphobic there. There's nothing inherently transphobic about being upset by this.

I can't believe that we now live in an era where a Pokemon game has a boob slider.

I don't have twitter access any more, but it's a pretty easy jump that there's going to be some transphobia A) over an update that un-gender locks clothing B) on the transphobia website. Maybe there are legit complaints as well, but phobes using this to be jerks is a given, regardless. As I recall people were pretty excited about the sliders giving them more body type options as well, which also tends to tick off jerks.

If they actually removed existing customization options then that would be a legit gameplay reason to be upset (non-gender related), but then why wouldn't the TC have mentioned that in their first post instead of waiting for people to question it? Coming in on a bad note.

So sounds like the jist of it is Niantic is trying to save time/money on modeling new clothing so they dropped down to 1 base model with sliders instead of distinct models.

Makes sense, but yeah results don't look great sometimes from what I've seen.

I didn't even realize the complaints were trans related in any way, i thought it was just because they look worse on average <_<

The 1 base model argument makes sense, but then maybe the system wasn't ready if it takes so much work to get something passable compared to what we previously had.

No one is looking at this and saying "holy shit they added sliders I hate this because of that reason." If they just added sliders and changed nothing else and people were mad, you would absolutely have a point.

People are mad because they destroyed the way the avatars look in addition to implementing poorly designed body sliders. The sliders are just one part of the bigger whole.

My character is now pale white when it never used to be. It sucks.

Yeah the faces look like goddamn zombies. Its legitimately terrible.

It is hilarious the boob shadows are a built in texture on the shirts, and it's all still there even after the boobs deflated.

This may be what gets me to stop playing.

If you're gonna allow for customization, at least make it possible for someone's avatar to not look hideous. Literally every option I tried looks horrendous, so I just went back to wearing the Cofagrigus suit.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am happy that they added more options including more hairstyles, let guys and girls use each other's things, and added a weight slider, but the execution looks so amateurish that it's an assault on my eyes.

Also I hope that nobody in my raiding party says I gotta make the avatar actually look like me now, because I ain't doing that. I can see my ugly self in the mirror any time I want, the last thing I want is to see me in a game.

I haven't played since like 2016 but yeah the new ones look awful. Looks like they got flattened

Yah I've been playing on and off and some friends of mine play too. Havnt talked to them about it but I'm not happy especially when I've spent to get certain styles.

It's a horrendous implementation of a really worthwhile feature.

In my IRL community, some folks like the update! If you're heavy, the new body types are good. And I think folks like that they can identify with an avatar that is more realistic for them.

But for a lot of folks these updates are really bad, and the majority of existing style options do not look good anymore. I wish they had just added a third body type OR added the ability to recreate the old models using the new system.
