So youd be perfectly fine seeing both SFII and Turbo in a GameFAQs contest?

Because Im basing that as my reason to combine the votes for this Rushmore topic, especially with what happened with the whole Sonic 3 & Knuckles thing for Genesis.

I mean we had SF2 and Super Turbo in the 2009 Games Contest before Super Turbo got replaced by MK2 (which I supported, for what it's worth, but more because I thought MK2 deserved representation)

Like I'd argue having them both is a bit superfluous just because there'd be more worthy inclusions than two SF2 games (mostly because I think the fanbases for both games are largely the same), but I'd also argue for keeping Turbo and removing SF2...! I don't think it would be invalid to have them both though.

Original: standard, 8 playable characters
Turbo: faster, adds 4 bosses as playable characters
Super: same speed as original, adds 4 characters
Super Turbo: Same number as Super but keeps Turbos speed, adds Akuma as secret boss/character

Also different ending images and character portraits, different sounds, different intros, changes in backgrounds, shotos reigning supreme in World Warrior, WW been slower than even the other normal speeds, Guile reigning supreme in Champion Edition, Super having a different announcer and more modes, Super Turbo having the super meter and been the version that uses your face as a mop...

Well yeah, that's a major oversimplification of the games. There are more differences than that, but Turbo and CE kind of inventing the meta game in fighters through the changes that were made in just the gameplay itself were pretty important for that alone.

They also actually made combos an intentional part of the game (they were happy accidents in SF2).

So I agree they're distinct and I think SF2 Turbo is a better pick for the SNES (specifically, the SNES-- SF2 vanilla feels more like an arcade rushmore entrant) rushmore but I also would rather my vote be grouped with SF2 if it's going to be the barrier for one getting in. I don't think this matters as I think if all the SF games are grouped they still don't get in but yeah.

I also think Pokemon Yellow shouldn't really be grouped with R/B but that's another tangent.

This is a tough one, as others have said. DKC(2), FFVI, SFII, Earthbound, Fire Emblem 3 and 4, Kirby Superstar, Mega Man X, and probably a bunch of games I'm forgetting are all honorable mentions here.

Won't have to fight about it when SF2 divides and conquers itself out of the equation. =)

Also nominating fighting games...and also, just a broad nomination of doing a week of games based off of genres instead of systems like we're wrapping up here.

I've seen it argued they are different when discussing nuances, but really I do not know the differences between them.

Both SF2 and Super Turbo would be worthy of Rushmore, and those are the only SF games I would consider (SFIV is an honorable mention though)

I imagine just plain ol' SF2 will dominate though because its impact is obvious and Super Turbo's is less so

Lites tend to be easier and have some form of permanent progress (gaining levels in Mystery Dungeons, unlocking things in Hades, etc); Likes are more brutal and you literally start the entire game over on death (Rogue itself, Nethack, etc).

...At least, that's what I've heard the difference is.

The day we do fighting games is the day before I quit doing this
