They cannot vote until they are 18.

Why am I bringing this up? News and social media keep reporting behavior that seems immature.

What I said. Israel says they are mature enough to vote.

All branches you can sign up for the military at 17 with parental consent in the US. I signed up for the Navy at 17 and my dad signed.

A few of the branches let you go to boot camp during the summer before your senior year, and then go to AIT/A-school when you graduate.

Each branch of the military has age limits to enlist in active duty:
  • Air Force: 17 - 39
  • Army: 17 - 35
  • Coast Guard: 17 - 31
  • Marine Corps: 17 - 28
  • Navy: 17 - 39
  • Space Force: 17 - 39
Some of that appears to be with parental consent, but not every branch

Israel not only has active and ongoing conscription of 17 year olds: you will be called back to duty after serving your time.

In the US afaik returning to service is voluntary.

Unless you are retired, or if you are in IRR, than you can be recalled to active duty,

Idk how similar this is to Israel but the USA has the Individual Ready Reserve that military members are obliged to for 8 years. The countdown starts ticking the moment one enters the Delayed Enlistment Program iirc. So you can enlist for 3-6 years, leave, and still be recalled within 2-5 years. Chances to be recalled are close to 0 for now though.

It does. I was in DEP for a year, so I only needed 3 years of IRR after active duty.

ahh ok im glad my memory is not off. I was in DEP for around 6 months or so. So had about 3.5 years of IRR. I got a bit paranoid when those ww3 memes were popular around 2 years ago since I was still in IRR at that time lol. by mid 2023 i was off the hook.

I don't know that Israel really needs the help with indoctrination.

Engineering is rough.

I came in as a CTO, but was re-rated as an IT (it's a long story).

Democratic countries with neighbors trying to murder them -- like Israel, South Korea, and Finland -- need conscription to maintain a strong army at all times no matter what.
Those in the U.S. and Canada have no idea how utterly blessed we are to not have such existential concerns.

That's how literally every military on the planet works, yes.

When you leave service in the U.S., unless you're retiring (20+ years in, getting pension, etc..), you go into the Ready Reserve for ~ 4 years and can be called back to service. It's probably similar in most militaries. Potential life-or-death situations occurring require contingency planning...

those other countries also make sure their veterans are educated and dont end up homeless
