I can get behind a black or Asian actor as James Bond. And as weird as it would be at first, I can get on board with a female James Bond. My only non-negotiable requirement is that they be British.

At this point, I don't care who plays him as long as the movies are actually good and like actual James Bond movies. They tried doing a different spin on him. Now go back to what everyone loves about JB movies.

I doubt modern audiences would resonate with the more outlandish supervillain plots anymore. Jason Bourne changed the game, and that's why the Craig era was the way it was. Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me, and the like were great at the time. They're still watchable today. But as new releases? Eh...

But, I'm curious, what do you mean by "what everyone loves about JB movies?" I'm interested.

I think that was true 15-20 years ago when the Bourne movies came out and the Bond folks did Casino Royale, but at this point I think many people would like a return to form, so to speak. People love the Marvel movies and they're full of over the top supervillains and plots. You don't have to go super ridiculous anyway. Just don't be so dry. I think there's a happy medium.

I thought you might mention superhero movies, but I'd counter that those are a genre with actual superpowered people (and even gods) that wield magic and other abilities far outside the realm of anything we'd accept in the spy genre. You know what you're going into with a Marvel movie and adjust mindset accordingly.

I do agree gadgets and quips were less common in the Craig era though. Ben Whishaw is a likeable enough Q and Ralph Fiennes is a pretty good M. They'll just need to get a more comedic actor in the role if they want to recapture the spirit of the Moore era.

I always enjoyed the films that had more realistic villains. Gonna bomb a dam and flood Silicon Valley? Cool, I'm on board with your villainy Mr. Walken. Dropping tungsten rods from an orbital weapons platform? That's too much for me. But I'll take all the assassins with the gadgets and weaponry every day of the week.

I mean, I'm not saying go full Moonraker or Die Another Day, but something less realistic can work too. I felt the Craig films went too far in the other direction in response to Die Another Day, at least for the most part. There were some fun moments in his movies too and I did enjoy CR and Skyfall. I'd just like a return to the old loose continuity to be honest.

What I like about James Bond is that you can have one more over the top movie and then the next one could be more relatively grounded.

yeah oldest bond ever. Are the bond movies even a fraction as huge as the goldeneye movie, days, brosnan? I liked brosnan a lot . Was in most of the bond movies i liked. Don't really like any of the craig ones....he might have been the highest grossing bond...by total movie, unadjusted for inflation though, i don't get it.

Idris Alba is fucking awesome, but people just need to accept that he's never going to play Bond.

Back when Brosnan was Bond, we used to get a Bond film every 2-3 years. Now we're talking 5+ years per film.

If they got Elba now and it took 3 years to make his first film, that would put him at 54. At the current rate of Bond films, he'd be around 60 for his second. Eon want a Bond actor that'll last for multiple films.

I like calling Aaron Taylor-Johnson an "MCU" star when he was a supporting character in one movie and died in it.

But this could be interesting. An interesting choice that might be able to fill the role for a pretty long time, and I don't have any doubts he couldn't do a great job. An Idris Elba bond would be cool, but its fine if that never actually happens.

All of the Craig movies were about 2-3 years apart (Skyfall took 4), with only No Time to Die taking 6 because Craig supposedly didn't want to come back. If there's a younger actor who is more willing to be in these movies, I could see them going back to that.

Ill reiterate what Ive always felt. James Bond should be an identity and moniker passed down from one agent to the next when one dies or retires. Would justify his mystique when he announces himself as theres no way people wouldnt be all over his ass for the property destruction alone, never mind the homicides. Also gives canonical reason for certain characters likes M and Q to have the same actors in so many movies but not Bond.
