I agree with this. I dont mind Harry Potter and think Disney had a great run in the 90s but its not part of my character. If you let it define you then youre probably taking it too far, especially in an interest such as consuming media which is actually a fairly passive thing to do.

Potter weddings seem kitsch, but at the very least the movies have a great aesthetic. If you play it right it can be a Potter wedding for fans and a generic "enchanted castle" theme for the non-fan guests, I guess.

But yeah, people who become wholly entrenched in a single media/franchise are a bit off, but so long as they're not hurting anyone, meh

There can be a fine line between superfan and someone who might have a socially crippling obsessive personality trait, but its silly to act like any adult fan of a property is too far gone.

At least the people who have themed weddings have some sort of social life. I'm not sure you can say the same for the people itt who laugh at them while having hundreds (even over 1000 in one user's case) active posts on a dying video game website.

Fully themed weddings based on a piece of media does seem pretty weird, I'll admit. I think a homage or nod to the media would go over better.

But ultimately, people can do whatever they want.

So long as it's something that both partners are in to (to the point of being a major bonding point is shared fandom), I'm mostly okay with it. A wedding should be for the couple, not the guests.

Doesnt Disney world offer princess weddings where you can dress as your favorite princess and get married with said theme, Pumpkin carriages and all?

If so I don't see anything wrong with this or Harry Potter themed ones honestly. Better than the standard crap wedding that can be incredibly boring imo. I mean it is their special day, if they want it to be magical I think it is nice they have options.

Never really cared about the property. Whole concept just seems dumb.

It's sort of an unfair take, given that plenty of people get married under the fantastic make-believe world of magic, myth, and monsters that are organized religions. Basically, it's the same thing as an HP wedding when you think about it.

I mean it's not a bad thing for people to find stuff weird, it's just human nature to find stuff weird. My only issue with it is when people don't keep that opinion to themselves when judging others. Like everyone on CE making "horny topics" I wouldn't go out of my way to go into their topic directly and call them all weirdos, I would just ignore it as long as they're not harming anyone.

She played Professor Sprout in the HP movies... so yeah, not a very significant role, but that's why she's commenting on this kind of thing.

Thats funny since Sprout had much more of a presence in the books, but Im struggling to remember if she appears in any films apart from the first two. (Still love her apparent lack of concern for Neville when he faints from pure shock of uprooting a Mandrake root and just continues to teach the class as if nothing happened. XD)

Yeah, its fine to think something is weird, even if its harmless. The issue only comes if people try to stamp it out and reduce peoples freedom, but I don't think anybody is suggesting that.

i like forums more than social media or reddit. you can get to know personalities and have longer more formal discussions. and this is the only forum i really know about considering i've been coming here since 2006 and everything else has died/is dying (like here) since then. i stopped following gaming news around the time of the gamespot exodus tho. don't game a whole lot either beyond a baseball management simulator on steam. dev makes a hockey game too you should try it out. i have a ps5 but sometimes go a couple months without touching it. great for playing 4Ks too.

People are allowed to still enjoy the things they liked as kids. I was 10 and knew a friend who loved Monty Python...he still does. As a kid I loved Xena Warrior Princess (not for kids) and still do, lol.

I definitely agree with this. They're people who look down upon others for playing video games because they're "childish", yet they often spend their free time smoking weed and getting high. Hell some years ago Bill Maher was trying to lecture people about growing up and his favorite pastime is smoking pot. I'm not judging anyone that smokes pot, weed or whatever. What anyone does during their spare time is their business. But just like how some people think video games are childish, they're also people that think smoking pot and weed is childish as well. Even if it isn't. So there's the sayings "Pot(no pun intended) calling the kettle black" or "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones".

I remember one Gamefaqs user criticizing people that played Kingdom Hearts and I came across this same user saying how much he liked the Spyro games. Which often gets labeled as a "childish" series by "mature adults" as well.

Yes, theres probably a lot of people who find stuff you do weird. There probably are for most of us, and people who arent at least a bit weird are incredibly boring.

That doesnt mean that anybody is trying to oppress you or stop you having the things you like. It just means that some people dont the appeal of things you do and might say so.

Its really not a big deal.
