Biden has literally never been progressive in his entire political career. Current Biden is the most progressive hes ever been. Why would young progressives support him in 2020 and not now against the same candidate whos become even more fascist since last time

Is Biden old? Yes. Is his age important? Yes. However I would just say hear Biden Speak compared to Trump and you try to convince be Trump is more sane, more of sound mind then Biden.

Biden is getting slow and occasionally fumbles his words, Trump is getting more manic, he's repeating himself, using simplified language, asks the crowd to love him, goes into random tangents, screwing up words and replacing it with nonsense, replacing words with sounds. Biden is showing signs of natural old age, Trump is showing signs of dementia.

This idea that we're in an economic golden age and so we should overlook the continuing struggles of the average person in this economy....it's not a good idea. First, it's the same argument Trump made in 2020. More importantly, most people feel they're barely getting by and Trump will validate those struggles, while you're trying to convince people they're not happening. That's when he's at his most powerful, being a faux populist. That's a losing dynamic. Third, it ignores the anxieties that are increasing under late stage capitalism regarding increased costs, more precarious work, environmental decline, etc. Instead of explaining how we'll address these problems, we're ceding the field on these issues and making it so that only right wingers are talking about them. And the solutions they propose will be fascist, as always.

Courting moderate and suburban voters is arguably what won Democrats 2018 and 2020 and softened the blow of 2022.

The house majority of 2018 wasn't won by leftists, it was won by candidates in these suburban distracts.

Man, I'm trying to post in good faith here as always. I don't understand the vitriol. I'm genuinely worried about what's going to happen to the country I live in. To my friends and family, to vulnerable people, to me. I was here in 2020 and I didn't make any such topics because Biden represented change and didn't have the same negatives at the time.

Biden was up the entire time in 2020 as well, that's kind of a crucial difference here and the point of the topic.

This will either be 2016 2.0 or the polar opposite, and I am fully ready for both outcomes.

I think the latter has a lot more to do with how people feel about politicians than what people post on Twitter. Most people are not even seeing any of that, they're coming to their own views based on what's happening in their lives and maybe the media they consume.

This is what I think is going to happen. Minus the already over part because:

It is way too early to say we are on a collision course for anything. March to November is an eternity in politics. Gaza would not have been this kind of issue just a short time ago is one example. Comey stepping in and ruining the 2016 election weeks before is another.

What I think will happen is that the more non-cult voters see Trump in the coming months, the more they will remember why they dont want him. And Trump cannot win without expanding his enthusiastically brainwashed base.

It is important to remember that history has not been very kind to politicians who want to spend 16 years in the White House as a VP or POTUS. FDR died early into his 4th term, Nixon had to resign a few years into his 2nd term and George H.W. Bush lost despite serving under a very popular president and had just won the Gulf War. If Biden does win, it is very likely he will not last 4 years and Harris will inevitably have to take over.

Cut the condescension. I'm absolutely tired of it. I've approached this topic with good faith and yet every single post one of you comes in and approaches me like I don't understand basic things. It's not just that I've come to a different conclusion than you, it's that I'm stupid and easy to psychoanalyze.

Of course I understand that many still support Israel to the hilt. I understand that there's risk in any approach on such a charged subject. But we know based on actual polling that most people, almost regardless of social group, Dems, independents, protestants, etc think Israel has gone too far, that most people support a a permanent ceasefire. We know for a fact that his current approach is costing him votes. You can even see it in his admin's current rhetoric as now they're calling for a ceasefire.

It is likely safer to do the popular thing and hope for the best than the clearly unpopular thing and hope it has no effect. That's without even bringing in the moral dimension here. He should do what 60+ percent of Americans want, and what key constituents of his want rather than what makes his base hate him and what fewer people want him to do. And if he's going to potentially lose either way, as you acknowledge, then he might as well do the right thing.

I don't think so... not to this extent.

I think the average voter has been convinced that anything Arab sounding is scary and coming to their podunk little town to terrorism them and their kids - and they have no knowledge of the persistent apartheid conditions in Gaza.

The evening news are still owned by either right wing cranks that fluctuate between anti-semitism for their white nationalist audience, and Zionism for their fundamentalist audience, while centrist corporate media outlets like MSNBC still want their parent and sister companies to sell more weapons to places like Israel to keep the bloodshed going.

I don't think many really care about Israel at all, they have been frightened into thinking Israel is "fighting them over there so we don't fight them here" - which is an outdated mantra we used to justify the failed Iraq War.
