The only bits of Zack I've seen are in FF7, Remake, and the start of the Rebirth demo where Cloud is actually Zack.

I prefer Cloud because he tries really hard to look like this badass Soldier man when he's actually a giant fucking dork.

Some people haven't played the original.

And it's one of those weird ones where mentioning Zack is in the Rebirth demo is kind of a spoiler in itself because I don't think he's actually in it, just Cloud-Zack is.

I only played the beginning of CC. Like, if it was real life, I guess Zack, but I think Cloud's the far better character.

Cloud overall, but some of Zack appeals to me too.

Crisis Core Reunion made Zack my favorite video game character of all time. >_> I found a little annoying at the beginning of Remake.

I like Cloud's personality because there's more depth to it. He puts on airs of being a hardass/badass (and kind of is in some ways), but it's all to hide just how insecure and traumatized he is. Zack is just a baffon. A loveable baffon, but still just a baffon.

Kinda the same reason I like Squall as my favorite FF MC: he's got great chrlaracter development and depth of character.

Zack. Cloud in the OG is just kinda there most of the game being a borderline silent protagonist, and when he isn't he's being only mildly helpful and existing as a plot device. That's not even touching on the AC character dev disaster.

Cloud is only marginally better in the remake. Will see if he's actually decent in the remake.

While we're on the subject of Zack and Crisis Core, Jesse Cox released a clip of his CC playthrough and I have to know.

To be fair, the reason that he was a moody emo in Advent Children was because he blamed himself and himself only for Aerith's death. She even chided him for it in the movie, telling him he needed to forgive himself.

That's a fair reason in my mind, even if he needs to learn not to hate himself.

While that is a reason, was there a point in the story where Cloud WASN'T dwelling on his past?

The man is basically permanently stuck there, and any time he's looking forwards is because something dragged him kicking and screaming that way until he settles in temporarily.

That's kind of his thing. He's such a traumatized dude that he can't move on with his life. Ever. As you said, he permanantly lives in the past and always has.

So many stories around the world wouldn't be told if the people involved just went and got some goddamned therapy lol.

I think this is why I've never liked Cloud, really. But I was always one of the weirdos that had been utilitarian in every problem in my life(if there's a way to fix it, do it). I even used the therapy mechanic in cyberpunk board games which is why I usually ended up way stronger than the other people in my party with less downside lol

Yep. Cyberpsychosis is actually not real, it doesn't exist. It's just run of the mill standard human emotional/mental conditions amped up via implants.

I always figured that it was just people losing their humanity (hence the humanity points system). But I suppose that you could argue that that could happen in a mental break too, doubly so if implants jack everything up to 10.

Huh. Now I really hope that Regina just sent those poor saps to therapy and not...something more ominous.

You're not wrong really, just two different ways to look at the same thing.

But yeah, there's a system in the board game where going to therapy will either maintain or regain your humanity.

Cloud. I agree with post 4 about his dork side popping out here and there and its pretty great. I really can't wait to get to FF7 remake verse post-mako trauma healing cloud's personality, the one with the "let's mosey".

I don't have much of a problem with zack, and crisis core reunion gave me a bit more appreciation for him. I do kind of wish he pieced together that these shinra dudes ain't right a bit faster though.

I relate to Cloud because I, too, want to be more like Zack.

OG Cloud, notably towards the end of the game was the best. Dude grew up, took responsibility, stopped dwelling on things, became a proper leader and a proper friend to the rest of the group. A dude that went through some shit, picked himself back up, and became his best self.

Then Advent Children happened...
