UK here so I dont have much in terms of immediate skin in the politics of the US outside of how it will affect the UK and our interests.

I do feel for the US at the moment. The UK press are portraying the next US election as bad guy Trump vs an increasingly elderly Biden and to me it does feel like there is an obvious feeling of not wanting Trump to win rather than wanting Biden to win. If that makes sense.

So from a non US person I need to ask why dont the dems have anyone else who is big enough to go up against Trump than Biden who, regardless of if its true or not... seems to be getting worsening polls especially around concerns of his age?

It could be 100% down to politically motivated media in the US portraying him that way but I do worry its going to be a lot closer this time and Bidens gaffs arent helping him at all. Ironic really as I still feel like despite this Biden is the obvious choice over Trump. But is this really the best the dems have to offer?

I think youre right. Like I say Id rather Biden wins but I dont think the campaign trail will be good for Biden. I cant imagine him going head to head in a live debate with Trump and coming out ahead which is depressing considering Trump isnt exactly a spring chicken himself.

The serious answer is that US presidents nearly always run for reelection to a second term and incumbents typically have a significant advantage in that election.

To give up that advantage voluntarily would be strange, and if Biden had stepped down that way, the GOP-loving US mainstream media would have had a field day with endless speculation about what horrid scandal(s) prompted that move.

Thats fair enough. Any idea who will take over from Biden once he retires at the end of hopefully his second term? The only name I know regarding the dems other than Biden and Harris is AOC.

gavin newsom from california seems to be getting groomed for the spot. i'm sure there will be some other progressives and moderates thrown in as well. AOC won't run, or atleast i'd be extremely surprised if she did.

Biden's running mate is chosen before the election, and is likely to be Harris again.

Again, it's mostly a case of the US press waiting to pounce if Biden does something that can be described as strange.

my take on that is that the good things he does can be written off by some goofy ass soundbite of a gaffe he makes. the bad news/mistakes always sticks around longer than the good.

i'm not the biggest fan in the world, but he's done more than enough for me to vote for him than the assclown that is trump

You might want to edit that while you can so it doesn't look like you're voting for Trump.

Pretty much any democrat would destroy Trump.

Pretty much any Republican would destroy Biden.

We are in a situation where the only reason this battle will be close is because it's Trump vs Biden. Something that could have been avoided.

polls show Hailey could beat Biden yet Republicans are all in on Trump and the DNC is so full of entitled out of touch old fuckers that refuse to give up power to anyone but establishment corporate dems theirs little chance for stars to rise up, much like how the DNC shoved Hillary Clinton at everyone they did the same thing with Biden not only out of sense of entitlement but because Biden defeated Trump once and they're banking on him doing it again.

The reason our media seems anti Biden is because the people who control the mass of our media are Republicans or too greedy and hungry for Republican tax cuts and deregulation and slashes to employee rights to give a shit about fascism

If Biden was going to step aside it would have needed to happen at least a year ago so there'd be time for Democrats who want to run to get into the race and start building support. If he does it now after the primaries have already started it's going to look like it was done that way so DNC could just appoint their chosen successor in a brokered convention rather than allowing a real primary to happen.
