Why are you doing vegy's gimmick?

Tip your server for good service!

Better idea. Pay the servers a living wage and if the restaurants jack up all their prices by 20%, let the market sort it out.

If you don't tip, you are gutter tier trash and you should fuck off from society. You don't actually give a rat's ass about changing anything or doing what's best for society

You don't get to just reject societal norms. Fight to change them, but you have to participate in them until they change. Don't like it? Move to the woods.

This is the evil genius of the tipping system. Working people rage at customers for bring 'cheapskates', while customers (also working people), resent being guilted into paying more to make up the wages of the servers.

If the employer paid the server more per hour and eliminated tipping, the cost of your plate would increase anyway, but the employer would take a cut of that increase. The end result would be you paying the same (or likely more), while the server makes less on average.

She's right, her paypig should've tipped her $37 at a minimum for bringing food and drinks to the table. If she interrupted their meal by asking how things are going, then that's amazing service and worth a minimum of $42.

Because that is currently how society is? You participate in societal norms every day that you disagree with. No one gives a fuck if you don't like this one. Until it is changed through law, you're stuck with it.

Yeah, a customer is not the employer, mate. It's a stupid system and if people play it they lose by default. You can't expect the whole world to get in on this bullshit. It's not anyone's job to pay people but the employer, and the employee's money concerns are not part of the product the customer agreed to. It's so backwards it can see last year.

Seriously, I can't get it in my head how people are still acting like this.

There are literally people in this topic defending this, claiming it's the best for waiters, and calling others "gutter trash tier", when the issue is the US culture of exploiting their employees.

This just another form of "'No way to prevent this,' says only nation where this regularly happens".

When every single place has a much better and healthier tipping culture than the US, the problem are not 15$ tips being too low.

Yes, we also have a tipping culture here. But it's some social standard and rule, not the financial lifeline of people.

While the tip is smaller than 15% that is still a good tip. 15 dollars for lets say an hour of work from just this one table. Typically they have like 4 tables at once. Say everyone else gave a 5 dollar tip. That is pretty get haul for an hour

Speaking as someone who was in the restaurant business and had multiple family members as waitresses, they do *not* want to be paid "a livable wage" because the service industry sucks. Most if not all the waitresses/waiters I know like the tipping system because they get paid way above what others are getting paid. My sister was making more money as a waitress than my aunt who worked in healthcare, lol.

And again, while people say they want to do away with tipping, I promise you don't. Prices will be much higher than the extra % you pay for a tip. I can still get a burger & fries in most diners in my town for less than a meal at fast food chains and of much better quality. Forcing to do away with tipping will result in pricing out of mom & pop diners and we'll eventually only have big corporation chains. Granted, it'll probably happen eventually, anyway, but it's about slowly down the process.

Your first paragraph contradicts your second. If they were making so much from tipping but would make less from a liveable wage, then prices aren't higher, unless owners overcharge by using the living wage as an excuse or you're one of the people tipping less.

Also, mom and pop establishments usually have lower prices.

She's right and also not right.

She's right in the sense that our current system revolves around a lot of these such employees depending on the generosity of the customer.

She's not right in the sense that in an ideal world, she shouldn't have to rely on the customer for ideal pay, and shouldn't have to be mad at the customer.

I digress though, some folks within that industry prefer the wage and tip system as it is, as some of them can make better money getting tipped than an otherwise fair wage might pay them.
