Yall dat dont like tipping and think dat dey should get a living wage? I agree wit you. However if you dont tip 20%, you are denying dem a living wage, and are no better den da restaurant . Keep in mind dat if dey were to get a living wage, da cost of your food would increase by at least 20%

This is the evil genius of the tipping system. Working people rage at customers for bring 'cheapskates', while customers (also working people), resent being guilted into paying more to make up the wages of the servers.

Better idea. Pay the servers a living wage and if the restaurants jack up all their prices by 20%, let the market sort it out.

Percentage based tips are nonsense. What is on a plate does not increase the value of somebody carrying a plate.

If you've been to a Kura sushi place in the US, they have robots and there is still a request for tip on checkout. The people there just bring you to your seat and food is served through conveyor belts (the robot brings drinks and condiments).

Speaking as someone who was in the restaurant business and had multiple family members as waitresses, they do *not* want to be paid "a livable wage" because the service industry sucks. Most if not all the waitresses/waiters I know like the tipping system because they get paid way above what others are getting paid. My sister was making more money as a waitress than my aunt who worked in healthcare, lol.

And again, while people say they want to do away with tipping, I promise you don't. Prices will be much higher than the extra % you pay for a tip. I can still get a burger & fries in most diners in my town for less than a meal at fast food chains and of much better quality. Forcing to do away with tipping will result in pricing out of mom & pop diners and we'll eventually only have big corporation chains. Granted, it'll probably happen eventually, anyway, but it's about slowly down the process.

I'll be forward with ya: I've never visited the US precisely because of this kinda biz. I love travelling. But I also hate shit like tipping more than I care to admit. I feel like it morally compromises me (I do advocacy work for a living) and I hate seeing people accept shitty shit like tipping culture and so forth. It's so wrong.

Before people @ me i tip. But why should tipping be based on the price of the food. If I get chicken tenders and Error get a rib eye. She he get better service because his tip will be bigger. If we get the same service how is it fair he pays more for the tip?

While the tip is smaller than 15% that is still a good tip. 15 dollars for lets say an hour of work from just this one table. Typically they have like 4 tables at once. Say everyone else gave a 5 dollar tip. That is pretty get haul for an hour
