They TOOK OUT extra content. It makes them one of the worst versions imo.

If they had the extra stuff id have already bought these.

They're based off the original versions, not the enhanced ports, they didn't take anything out.

That's why I like them. "Bonus content" like that usually feels tacked on and doesn't mesh well with the core game.

That's my main reason for disliking them too TC, but they are still one of the best ways for people who have never played the original FF games to experience them for the first time on a single modern platform for a somewhat reasonable price because trying to buy all of the hardware and software to play all of the most content rich versions of these different games would cost a lot these days.

I refuse to buy them because I enjoyed that things were expanded in the portable versions. To me these versions are comparable to being a hypothetical 4K only release of Lord of the Rings, but only the theatrical versions (when everyone knows the Extended Editions are the only Editions).

Ill never buy them or play them because of that. Especially since they took down versions with extra stuff when they released these. FF II is hurt the most by the lack of extra content.

the bonus content for the games has been on the tier of 'iffy romhack' in terms of quality, though. like -- i get that you might view games as a consumptive media and therefore more is better, but maybe go play the bonus content in the chrono trigger ds remake and get back to me on that.

what i actually end up disliking about the pixel remasters are some of the changes to the music and just some of the art direction in general. you go from snes sprites that avoided banding like the fucking plague to 'remastered' sprites that roll in it like it adds charm.

The lack of cohesion in graphical presentation is offputting to me. Why are they mixing styles? Devs dont even know what pixel means anymore. Looks like the cheap mobile versions. Stick to the PSP versions.

The base games which these are made from are lacking in end game content. Which is where most of the extra content came from.

Base FFVI is a joke at the end and lots of extra bosses really helped the ends of these games.

Iv, v and vi had some great extra bosses and content. Going back to the base game is boring.

And also i hear they let you jack up exp gains. These were really for casuals.

Sure one of the dungeons sucked but it adds so much more good than bad. Its a bad example apart from the one dungeon that did suck.

The DS versions is much much better than OG even with a sucky additional dungeon.

I never bothered with IV and V on GBA, but VI's "bonus content" is utter shit. Most of the "ultimate" weapons are worse than what was already available. Edgar and Mog's lances aren't even flagged as lances, negating the damage boost from Jump. The extra dungeons are tedious and the antithesis of fun. The only benefit to the Advance port is the ability to steal multiple Ragnarok/Illumina swords, ironically further defeating the "ultimate" weapons that were added.

Imagine paying $60 for nes/snes games with pixel graphics. I never understood it either. Theyve been release multiple times and now that theyre pixelated people love them again lol.

I dont even mind the axed content because theyre trying to give the OG pure experience. I just dont like the new style, SNES FF6 looks way better

I did like the Pixel remasters though the lack of the extra GBA/PSP content was unfortunate.
granted I decided to play all the Pixel Remasters one after another so part of me is also kinda glad the extra content wasn't there as well lol.

The vanilla games end games are so baren and og bosses are a joke.

These just feel so casual. But that does sell....

Be real - most all of that extra content wasn't great.

I never played that extra content, so it's not something I would miss. I just wish they'd put out these remasters on Xbox ffs

From what I can tell, the ones besides Diabolos were added to existing areas. If so, then those ones wouldnt be tacked on.

Yes they would. "Tacked on" doesn't mean "added but in new areas," it just means "added on." You're adding a qualifier that doesn't exist. Tacking it on, as it were.

People arguing for less content is weird. Square can do no wrong. Not to mention the prices of the remasters. I prefer mobile FFVI all day. Just glad i got it before they delisted it.

There's nothing wrong with more content if it doesn't suck. Unfortunately, "bonus content" in ports almost always does.

hell why not add some more new content

like for FF1 pixel remaster add more jobs (and gender option for each job)

for 3 and 5 add more jobs as well

for 6 add some new espers

then just add an option for "original or new" content that way purists can just click original and avoid all this

Just because something was added that didnt exist in the original doesnt mean it was tacked on. If properly integrated so that someone who never played the original but knew there were some additions would be unable to tell that it wasnt there before then it isnt tacked on.

Which is exactly what FFVIA's additional content does: it sticks out and feels like something that shouldn't exist.

Admittedly, Leviathan feels the least out of place from the rest of the added content, but that's not saying much.

I remember playing the added dungeons in Dawn of Souls and thinking they were shit. If that's the quality of the bonus content in the other games then I'm glad it's gone. >_>

tried to watch a stream of ff6 pixel remaster and it's legit ugly as fuck. rpg maker games look better.

FF6 has worse sprites for characters than the original.
FF1 has poorly styled sprites. The fighter and monk, in particular, look less cool.
The rest are pretty good.

Yes. A 30 year old game thats been ported many times needs more content.

And really doesnt need an exp multiplier. But thats optional....unlike the extra content.

But i at least already have the versions of most of these games i want so i have no interest in these versions.

i think the actual core game is much more important than any stupid extra shit they want to tack on, but you do you. i'd imagine you're big on achievements too, which should also be lazily tacked onto old games so that people can feel as if they've consumed a bit of media.

They do. They can be used to reduce grinding. They can also be used to set xp gains to x0, allowing for a true llg or psg. Or, since they're buried in a menu, they can be easily ignored. I'm not sure why you're so hung up on the multipliers.

The greater additions are the orchestrated soundtrack, bestiary, the ability to walk diagonally, quicksaves, in-game map, the ability to play on modern hardware, and at least a dozen other qol changes I'm forgetting.

I wouldve preferred actual pixel remasters. Make them look a lil bit more realistic like octopath traveler. Dpnt want pay again for the same game, just cause pixels are now 1080p....which makes them look worse actually.

so they also added downward multipliers, you know. you can turn stuff off.

you can even turn off the 'compensatory hp' thing in ff2, which i think and hope means you gain it like you did in the NES version and not automatically. i hated that. bring back the original row functionality while you're at it please.

being able to actually tune the base game is fucking awesome actually tm. i'm pretty stoked they didn't waste the resources on that romhack shit!
