Got it down to the last chunk and just paid it off.

Not bad, considering it was a 5 year refinance through SoFi that I paid off in just over 4. If you see the disbursement date you'll notice I foolishly could have waited for the world to end a few months later and not refinanced. I ran some numbers and realized I ended up paying nearly 25k more by refinancing but I wasn't exactly expecting a pandemic to pause interest rates.

While it sucked, I'm still a believer that all humans are accountable for their own decisions. I knew it would be expensive. But I also knew I signed the papers promising to pay back what I owed and then I did it. Zero sympathy for anyone that gets an 80k arts degree and begs for forgiveness while making 32k. These are things you think of before taking out loans.

The irony is that now that I'm debt free I'm out of clinical practice. The world changed for the worse following covid so I went from working clinically to administratively.

Had a much longer writeup explaining why but deleted it all after I remembered this guy wrote it more accurately and eloquently than I ever could.

Agreed. Really good stuff.

Still, Biden has managed to erase $127 billion in student debt so far for more than 3.5 million borrowers more than any other president in history.

His administration has used existing programs that were previously hard to access for many borrowers to deliver that relief.

As a primary care physician I disagree with multiple things you said.

Just because you made it through a predatory system, doesn't mean that everyone else should suffer. It's akin to defending the terrible culture of medical residency.

Many physicians become exceedingly greedy and bitter after their training is done, and you seem to be one of those. I'm sorry that this has happened to you, but don't try to project your beliefs as facts on everyone else.

Old news. The more I listen to him and read about him--especially after the debates--I'm team Haley. I think she's the best bet beyond the current nursing home frontrunners. Once trump is somehow legally or financially crippled from running I think she'll slide into the general election.

Must have felt nice to break six figs on the loans. I had a little party when it happened.

For those mentioning my edgy loan forgiveness thoughts, I know I sound bitter--and I indeed am--about any loan forgiveness. Look at it from the perspective of someone that filled out a contract, did the work, and paid it back: why would I respect anyone that just gets it wiped? Why should I be the only rule follower? How would that not foster bitterness? Where is the fairness or respect for consequence?

I'll bite. Why is Haley gross?

And it wasn't ~that~ long. The first debate was enough. I somehow completely missed his climate views.

Haley seems OK with abortion rights, or as okay as any republican can get. Hoping for a conservative government that stops prioritizing social issues (specifically religious-based views and restrictions), she seems like my best bet

There are lots of essential fields where the pay doesnt so quickly balance out the loan amount

easy to pay off $400k when youre making $200k+ as a physician

not so easy to pay off $100k when youre making $50k as a teacher
