that's a way shittier way to convince people i'm town than to just rest on my laurels of people feeling good about me. scum would never do this, much less do this so early. scum would wait. i don't have that luxury.

I get a BP.

The town benefit is not accidentally killing town because clearly that is a possibility here and is not in dispute. It's got the same town equity as a gladiator's No Lynch option, just I don't get to actually choose who's been gladiated.

I would like to hear the town motivation for using the box.

I will say explicitly that no carrot has been dangled in front of me with respect to either option. Something could happen to Metalhead when I turn back to Jeff if I kill for example. I have no idea. I would not be surprised and of course will share the result with everyone, but as of right now, there is nothing.

because i like to have fun while playing mafia and am not about to deprive myself of a chance to use a silly ability where worst case scenario we can just all agree that i spare someone?

oh and i haven't asked for clarification on what happens if i die because it's not stated but i think that it's probably the same as what would happen if i don't make a choice to spare or kill before day ends, which is kill, so i think someone has to die from the chain hunt anyways even if you lynch me.

i think i worded that badly - don't do drugs friends. that is to say that my best guess is that the chain hunt does not end because it did not explicitly say that it ends if i die. it just says that there is a default that happens if i haven't made a choice - suggesting that i don't have to be there to make the choice.

The Chain Hunt continues, and votes are still locked in place. In the distance, a small light in the shape of a cube shimmers and becomes visible for all players. Looks like it's the source of the chains.

At any time before the start of Day 3, a player may now pick up the box and solve it by posting:
"##Solve: The Box"

Doing so will have the player run to The Box and attempt to solve it. This will end the Chain Hunt for all other players but the solver.

if you're convinced you're going to die anyways, i'm going to kill you on the off chance i get some wild reward and deal with the consequences. why spare you when you're ruining my fun, setting me up to get lynched either way, and keeping this from actually being an entertaining mechanic?
