Does this mean I have hypertension?

My friend, phlebotomist, think I might be dehydrated. Another thinks its anxiety as Ive had weird bouts of it and she says the top number is indicative of that.

anyone know?

High blood pressure is a systolic over 130 or a diastolic over 80. You have Stage 1 hypertension. You may be able to reduce your blood pressure with lifestyle changes. Less sodium, more exercise, reduce stress, etc. You should definitely get more measurements, and maybe consider buying a home BP system; they're not terribly expensive.

It's high, but hypertension is a chronic condition and you can't really diagnose it from a single reading, especially if that reading might have coincided with an anxiety episode or an unusual hydration state.

That is considered high. Anxiety can affect blood pressure, too.

It's the same thing.
You can try changing your life style and see if it helps. But still inform your doctor. They'll start a lot of damn tests. You might even get a stress test where they check your blood flow for blockages

Are there life style changes you could make that would likely help? Are you over weight? Drink often? Smoke? Exercise? etc..

And you should still tell your doctor first. Exercise can also kill you

I drank a lot for 6 months and then quit cold Turkey. I went from a 27BMI to a 29.2BMI and thats all in my gut. But due to my frame its hard to see or tell. Im constantly being asked, lose what? When I say I need to lose weight.

I dont smoke either.

Work is stressful, though. Right now its changing a lot so Im stressed.

My BP use to always be 120/80 exactly. Never could get it lower. But when I went from 27BMI to 23.2BMI my BP was like 109/72 on average.

Can this be related?

Yes dehydration and too much salt are major causes.

Yeah, drink more water than that. It doesn't have to be water, but that sounds like some major dehydration and you should avoid letting that happen.

Dehydration can cause both low and high blood pressure. When you're dehydrated, your blood volume is reduced, which lowers your blood pressure. But when you're dehydrated, the level of sodium in your blood rises, so your body releases a hormone called vasopressin. This causes the arteries to constrict, which increases the blood pressure.

You can actually swing back and forth between these two extremes, which carries its own risks such as shock.

Dehydration also increases the viscosity of your blood, so it's harder to push it around. Generally, being mildly dehydrated will lower your blood pressure because the volume is down, but as it gets more severe pressure will climb as your body tries to offset that drop to keep you conscious.

Just stay hydrated. It's important.
